I'm currently running a stock JDM B16A3 long block and am starting a rebuild. I have B16A head with an ITR valve train and CTR camshafts. Since I'm going to have it apart, I was considering going ahead and swapping the P30(JDM B16A) pistons with the PCT(JDM B16B)ones. I also plan on using an OEM three layer head gasket. On Zealautowerks.com this would give me a 11.91 compression ratio. From what I understand, this should be pretty a straight forward swap. I haven't done this before & want to know if this will work, or if there is anything I am overlooking or need to change or do to make this a successful build. Your help is greatly appreciated!!!
 
for ctr pistons to fit on stock b16a rods you must shave 1mm off each side where the piston connects to the rod if i can find the site i will show you what im talking about
you also cant mill the head cause of the dome of the pistons

After some further research, think I might just go with a single layer head gasket. I've heard that you can run just one of the oem layers, just not sure which one would be best. Will this be sufficient/ reliable? Not trying to have any leaks or be replacing head gaskets every 40K.
 
nooooo do not run a single layer headgasket....that could be the stupidest thing to do....just use the oem 3 layer and at the most use a 2 two layer that is pretty thick

the dome on those pistons are large so you can just use a single layer
 
Yeah, I meant sticking with the P30 pistons. I think they should clear. I did a build on zealautowerks.com (I know this is a estimated calculation) & it came up wit a piston to deck height of .022" & 11:1 cr with a .009" head gasket. I was wanting to know which gasket & which layer to use. I figure copper spray should help provide some leak insurance.
 
ok then if you use the p30 pistons your fine but i still wouldnt run a one layer headgasket ever

just mill you head enough and use a two layer
 
That's what I figured. Doesn't seem to be the best idea, I've just been seeing it a lot more lately & was wondering if there was a way to make it any safer. Think I'm just going to stick with a thiner cometic gasket & just be content with the extra little bump from the cams & a tune.
 
you will be perfectly fine with milling the head and using a two layer

I've heard you have to shave 1mm off each side to get them to fit the connecting rods, plus I'm not really trying to go into my block at this point. Probably just going to go with a .030 cometic. Not too into milling the head too much either, I'm receiving a head that has recently been port& polished, 3 angle valve job, & some valve train upgrades, so I would assume they might have already taken around .003 while it was being rebuilt just to bake sure it had a fresh surface, but not certain.

-b16 block (b16b pistons) btw,what is mean by shave 1mm each side connecting rod??or can u give me the picture about the shave 1mm...
-porting head by my self
-dual valve spring stock retainer and valve
-3layers gasket oem
-stock injector stock fuel rail(btw,how much the psi pressure fuel for regulator?)
-stock conrod stock bearings stock crank
-stock camshaft
-ecu pr3 with racing chip

so that all about my engine build..ehe.then so please help me..
 
Don’t use b16b pistons! I just had ctr's in my b16 setup and it was slower then with my stock ones pr3's. The reason is, they are heavier and don't flow better, then pr3's. Now I put pr3's back in my b16a and 1 layer gasket and what a surprise it is faster and safer. And also it’s the same as ctr's. 140psi (11:3 compressions) on stock unmilled head and block.
