So I'm a dumb shit. Less than 3 months after I got my Accord I forgot to keep an eye on my oil  and it all burned up and fucked my motor. I haven't really determined the exact cause.. it kinda rolls over and Idk fuck it. I've been wantin to do a swap since I got it so now seems like a pretty good time.
So my first thought was like a JDM H22a but most of the numbers I can find are like +$2000 , and that's a little more than I can afford to spend right now, I'm a Pizza guy, I don't have too much income. So I guess my next choice would be a H22a4, and there are a few in salvage yards around town  which seems like a pretty good choice, they told me about $1000-1500, so that's a little better.

So I've got a big project to ahead of me. And my shit's automatic too and it sucks nuts, I wanna drop a 5spd in. Is that gonna be too hard?
And with all this work I've been thinkin' about just gettin' another F22a and savin' my money for a turbo. Or even a hybrid swap..?
I don't really know; I have a lot of options..

Opinions?

since your a pizza guy, for gas saving, go with the h22 but if you want power go with the turbo...you'll get better results out of her. but as for the tranny swap............get a manual trans H22 or F22 they r interchangable.....and get the shift linkages, engine harness, pedal system, basically get as much wiring as possible, you wont need it all but just in case....clutch kit, all clutch components, baically everything a manual has and auto doesnt....its actually easy.....drill new holes for the shift linkage, after you drop out ur auto tranny, hook it up to the manual shifter assembley (after you take out the auto shifter). swap out the wiring harness. im not sure if you have to take out the TCU but i did on my old car just in case.....im swap out the pedals, the brake and drill holes to put clutch pedal in, and everything else...its simple but takes a little bit of time...if u know what your doin i little bit it should only take you a day if you can get the trans out quick...n e other questions just ask

Can you do the work yourself? Or are you planning on having a shop do it for you? If you're having a shop do it then add another $500 - $1,000 in for the auto-to-manual conversion, and probably another $1,000 for the motor swap.

A decent turbo kit will cost you at least $1,500, so keep that in mind while weighing your options...

I plan on doing as much of the work as I can myself, I don't have any tools or anything but alot of my friends do, so they'll be helping me..
I would've thought a turbo would help with fuel economy? Idk it makes sense to me that it would, but Idk I'm still kinda noobish..

At any rate, I've come to the conclusion I'm gettin' an H22. The F22 is heavier, it doesn't have DOHC or VTEC, and the more I think about it, who the fuck wants a boosted F22 when they could've had an H22?
The question now is JDM or USDM? Either way I'm going turbo at some point, so is it really worth the extra grand for a little extra torque and horsepower?

You should keep doing more research. After building a F22 SOHC vtec and boosting it. I'll take my single slammer grocery getter any day over any h-series.

BTW f22's can produce more torque than any b-d-h series. At least being boosted they will.

yeah, vtec is NOT everything. a non-vtec sohc F22 is sweeeet on boost. do it.

actually i'd rather have the boosted F22 rather than the H22. realize DOHC is for natural aspiration, and SOHC is great for boost. the F22 has a perfect compression level for boost already (8.8:1).

Never said vtec was everything, I just stated what I built. The a6 head flows the best out of the f22 series. The sohc f22 vtec breathes like a 80 year old smoker unless you spend about 1500 port and polish work. But yes, the non vtec head is better than the vtec head in stock form.

I will also advise you to do some more research.

Once again you should research this as well. There are alot of boosted F22's out there. Guys making big power and lil power.

yeah, i wasn't pickin on your build or anything, just letting the OP know that about vtec and non-vtec.

why should i do more research on DOHC vs SOHC? DOHC is good for natural aspiration because it has one cam for exhaust and one for the intake which can be timed better to accomodate the scavaging that occurs in the header. SOHC is good for boost because you dont really need scavaging as much, since your forcing air through as it is. lmk where i'm getting that wrong. OP's got an SOHC.

i was advocating the F22, just so you know. my friend has a 92 accord lx and we've been over everything about that motor. the compression level it's at currently is great for boost. it is. it makes pretty good power already, so there wont be a sacrifice of off boost power. you have decent head room for effective compression.

Why would adding a turbo help with fuel economy?

Think about it for a second; what does a turbo do? It forces a ton of air (boost) into the engine in order to make more power. If you're forcing more air into the engine, then you're also going to need to inject more fuel, thereby reducing your fuel economy by a significant amount.

Also, if you're going to be adding a turbo, then it's pretty much a given that you plan on romping on your car. The more aggressively you drive, the worse your gas mileage is going to be.

Anyway, like the other guys said, I'd do some research into boosting your F22. The compression ratio and iron sleeves actually make it a pretty decent motor to boost on, no modifications necessary...

Turbo's allow your motor to operate a lot more efficiently, hence the significant power increase. Improved gas mileage is very possible. Do some research homeboy... most companies who manufacture turbo kits usually advertise the fact that turbo's INCREASE GAS MILEAGE.

Of course, a lead foot will decrease gas mileage no matter what the mods are, BUT, turbo's the way to go if you're concerned about gas mileage. You can do more, with less. For example, 9 times out of 10, H22 N/A built to 250 whp will guzzle more gas than an F22-T built to the same power level.

I've worked at water treatment plants that run HUGE motors to pump millions of gallons of city water, and guess what??? ALL of the motors used run turbochargers!

Not because they're trying to race anyone, but because they INCREASE EFFICIENCY

way to bring back a dead thread

Like I told you in the other thread, CHECK THE DATES BEFORE YOU POST!!!!! This shit is old you idiot, no one cares anymore...

I could care less when this thread was posted. I happened to stumble across your retarded posts, and I couldn't help but say something.

This is a topic that many people are CLUELESS about. Shit, it got a reply the same day for gods sake! Why you trippin??? Feelin kinda dumb or wha?

Dude your a dumbass shut the fuck up. Brutal is right 100%. Having a turbo requires more fuel end of story.

Are you all butt buddies here or wha??? You're obviously a moron if you're gonna make half-assed comments, and not back them up somehow
