So...I just got a job at the Slim Jim factory(Con Agra foods); but they're pretty much cutting hours and whatnot; plus, I don't like it there. VERY boring 12-hr shifts. Honestly, feels like my life is over as my weekends are gone(work 6pm-6am Wed-Sat) and so is my social life(well, I could take to people during school). I also can't stand the smell. I like Slim Jims, but I'm pretty sure this job will ruin that.

Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions as to what type of jobs to look for? I'm pretty sure they're out there but not posting public and I've applied to whatever place I can. But really, I need a specific area to look into. I LOVE to stay busy and like labor-intense jobs. This current job is hella easy, and fortunately pays more than my last job at Caterpillar. I'd just like a little more "freedom"(there's USDA guys riding our ass); a warehouse-type job I guess.

PS. I hate my life. I'm the fattest I've ever been, hate my job, school is adding more stress not to mention it's going to take me forever to even transfer due to work(in community college; transferring to NCSU in Mech. Engineering).

Yes, I'm drunk. How's my grammar?

Did I mention, I now have emo bangs?

jobs un-effected by economy.

doctors. people will always be sick
lawyers. people will always true to sue

that's about it.

i work a for a government contractor and we are on OT right now. my job hasnt been affected by the economy....

Mine either. I currently work for a Government Contractor, but in 13 days, I'll work for another contractor, making lots more money. I do computers.

That is, if my boss ever came in so I could give my notice.

Funeral peeps as well.

BTW, can you send me some slimjims? They're fantastic. You should try and grill them. lol

^ teaching is definitely effected by the economy. Every city in the area is trying to have union concessions with teachers unions. If that doesn't most municipalities will just cut teaching positions.

In some areas this may be the case. Speaking for my area there is always a need for quality educators in the following areas: Inner Cities, Special Education, Math, Elementry Education and Science. Especially for Males. On our state gov. website there are 541 opening as of right now and the bulk of the hiring season is almost over.

Stripping and Porn. Among the other things listed. Hit up USAjobs as well.

IT :)

i have way more work now than when the economy was in better shape. why? because i can cut prices on services and still make out up top.

How is construction in your area? Also hit up some of your local ready mix concrete plants, there is usually a need for another hand working in the yard. Chipping drums, watering the yard (keep dust down) general maintance that kind of thing.

Construction is down. I know like 10 people in construction and they're all laid-off. The only person I know in construction that's working is a commercial electrician.

They're not hiring teachers either...or police officers. IIRC, there's a state-wide hold on hiring and the schools are planning on letting some teachers go.

Nah, I can't get Slim Jims because they don't have anyone to take the orders. Yes...we still have to pay for them(they just give us wholesale pricing).

I think I'll just try to go into computers. I've always worked on computers; only thing is I haven't looked into it for quite some time so I'm a little behind.

Doctor and lawyer....hell that'll take to long and cost too much. lol

Lol, I was just gettin ready to say this, or in liquor distributor warehouse.

In your free time you can study up on some of the web languages or web design and try and pimp yourself out as a contractor. You are not going to be self sufficant that way but it would get you a little extra cash and maybe open some doors down the road a little ways.

Everyone has hair... well.... ok... most at best.. and its not like people have the choice to make it grow or not.. You should be a hairdresser :ghey: lol or a wig maker... dealing with peoples lice ridden hair... oh god.. I guess you could apply for a job at the unemployment office... I bet they don't turn too many people down..

Funny you say that; supposidly ABC warehouse is hiring but when I had went there a couple of weeks ago they said they had about 150 applicants so I just left. I guess I'll head back up there.

As for web languages; I think I'll do that. I could take classes too though; so far I've only signed up for mathmatics but if they have one-day classes on monday or tuesday, that would work very well with my schedule.

Move to Alaska. There's always jobs here, especially in the summer. If you can stand the winters, you can make good money here. I'd say we're probably the least affected by the recession. I personally don't know anyone who's lost their job locally.
