So I have finally decided to bring life back to my old ride. Almost 5 years ago my 93 Del Sol was put on the sidelines due to a disagreement about who should stop at a red light. At the time this happened I was just about rdy to do a JDM GSR swap. I decided to keep the Sol and payed the insurance company $500 for it with the plan of rebuilding it. Well I will be the first to say that I am a procrastinator, and 5 years later it still sits in my garage with nothing major done to it since the night she was hit. Things have heppened in the past year that have made me come to realize that tuning is one thing I really loved and that I should get back to it. So this is my first post on the new build that will start this week.

Project: 1993 Del Sol S with a JDM B18C swap.

The good, the bad, and the ugly:
Good
  • B18C, Skunk2 Mani with 70mm TB, AEM Fuel rail and Regulator, DMS 450CC injectors.
  • TEIN suspension
  • Tanabe Exhaust
  • NOS Dry system (Not installed)
  • 17in Motegi R7 Racing Rims
Bad
  • Door needed replaced, wiring is going to be a bitch
  • Front bumper and drivers side fender and side skirt are trashed
  • Body work needed under the door
  • Lol, rims may be too big.... going to have to look into this one
Ugly

  • Rear drivers side quarter panel is trashed, needs to be cut out and a new one epoxied in
Ill post pics in a few days to show what I am working with. First step is running by a few junk yards to pick up the shift linkage, mounts and axle's. I just found a yard with the quarter panel I need, $350 is the best I have found so far. Let me know if anyone has one laying around. Just got the new engine on the stand tonight, going to start adding the new intake mani in a few days when I find time. Due to working and dealing with the GF I have a feeling this is going to be a very long project. Updates will be coming as thing progress.

IMO,
pull the old motor.
tow it to body shop/paint after you've done all you can for prep, etc.
then start the swap with a fresh painted car and bay... just be careful :) Nothing worse than a mix-matched engine bay IMO.

Thats the plan, the color right now is blue.... going to go with a silver or a gunmetal color, and I agree a silver body with a blue bay would bring a tear to my eye.

Unless you already have the rims laying around, I'd probably go for something smaller, like in the 15"-16" range...

They are sitting next to the car right now, with tires (Both never used). I am really thinking about trying to trade someone for some 16's. But from what I can see right now with one of them mounted on the drivers side front is I am only going to be rubbing by a very small amount. May not be too hard to fix this issue.

I am going to switch the 450's to some 345's out of a prelude per advice from another user. The nos will only be about a 30 shot on a WOT setup. When I do boost it I will jump up to larger injectors, maybe 550.

Got a new fuse box relay in the mail today (Old one had a little broken piece that made it useless). Swaped it out and put in a new battery. First turn of the key and she turned over right away with no smoke(4 years since the last time). A few squeaks that I am guessing is the belts getting old, but seeing as how this engine is getting yanked out in a few weeks I don't really care. Thanks to "91 Civic Si" I found the 1/4 pan I need, spoke to my neighbor who has been a body man for over 30 years and he said he would do the repair for a $400. Now I have heard that people may ask questions about my engine when I get the car inspected (remember this car has been out of action for at least 5 years). Am I going to have any issue's with the inspection if I have a new engine with no "paper work"? I am just wondering if I should get the car inspected before I do the swap? Tomorrow if the weather is nice I am going to run to a "you pull it" yard and see if I can find some motor mounts, and try and put the new engine on a stand. Does anyone know what size bolts I need to put the B18C on a stand?

Oh and another Tech Q, will a AEM 25-200 fuel filer work? I look it up under my sol and dont find it, but they have it lised under the gsr. If it wont fit any ideas on a good filter/pump.... just trying to finish the fuel system for the new power horse.

So I talked to my neighbor today and found out he cant do the body work for at least 3 months. This got me thinking, I have always been a go b4 show kinda guy and this could make a perfect sleeper. I still have the stock bumpers, and with only a few hours of work she could look bone stock.... not counting the 3in exhaust pipe coming out the back. Plus the $800 I would save not doing the body repair could go towards a turbo or the ecu, just a thought, let me know your thoughts.
