Ok so i have a few questions about the ZC engine, more specifically the block. Right now i have a ZC block with a Z6 head, its boosted with forged Vitara pistons (8.6:1) and eagle h-beam rods. Now i was hoping someone could help me figure out how much Hp can stock ZC sleeves hold?.. mainly before i have to look into sleeves or block guard? I am also looking to get new pistons with a much higher compression 10.1-10.4:1 but im not sure what brand pistons are good/ who really makes good pistons for a d series. Now ive tried researching and i cant find any wiseco/Arias pistons for a Dseries. I checked ebay and all they have are vitara's. I got my pistons off ebay but it wasnt just a bot posting them, it was an actual seller who had reposted them brand new still in box, because of whatever reason.

(I seen people with 400+ HP builds, daily driven on a D16 had cracked sleeves after 6 months and then i see people with 400+ DD with no problems after 4 years of DD. So its up to you if you want to spend the extra grand for insurance

if you are going to be doing high horsepower setup then you will want to get it sleeved. worth the money to insure your setup)

that what i found out about it but how much HP are you thinking on doing?? if your gona do around 200-250hp then i think you might be ok for a while but as any build new and real aftermarket stuff will make it hold and longer, but try golden eagle they might hawe some stuff i remeber looking for stuff to my ZC a while back was thinking on boosting it aswell but the ZC are a bitch to find aftermarket parts for

oh ok though he had the doch one then its easyer to find stuff for it but as i sad it deppends on how mutch he want to boost but search on google Turborex you can find allot of shops there that specialise on racing and building honda engines

I have a "mini me swap" as they put it. DOHC ZC block, with a SOHC Vtec z6 head. Im aiming for the 350-400whp range. I decided to not have it sleeved, possibly block gaurd but thats it. My compression is currently 8.1:1 on 19psi. Im tryin to find some A6 pistons to slap in it to bump it up to 9.9:1. How much psi you think i should run on those stock sleeves? 14?

A block guard is a cheap and wise investment, you will find that the middle 2 cylinders will distort under high load, I had an all motor engine (180 Crank HP) that worked well for a couple of sprint seasons but the 2 centre cylinders ended up 8 thou out of round. Fit the block guard before you bore it. Check out Endyn for pistons, The Old One - Energy Dynamics.

Who makes a good block guard? Im looking to be making 350-400whp as my goal so i will be under a high load quite often. It's my DD.

If you looking for that sort of horse power then maybe you should go darton sleeves. If not mid deck then standard ones with a block guard, try KMS engine developments (they are on ebay as well) for block guards or Endyn should have that as well.

i have a question i have a d16a1 that im gonna put in my 87 crx and i have a set rods i was wonderin if i could use sigle cam forged pistons

I have fitted a set of late model pistons ( I think D16Y) in a D16a1 no problems. I bought them off ebay , they have a higher dome and were advertised as giving a higher compression ratio when put in the D16A1 but the quench area around the edge was lower than the standard pistons, so to make the most of the higher dome I had to have the block decked down to suit the pistons.

Don't put A6 pistons in there if you're going to go for power levels that high. They won't hold up.

If you're considering sleeving WITH a block guard, just get reinforced sleeves.

SRP and Wiseco make pistons- Arias does too. Search and you'll find them. ;)

Exospeed - Performance Parts for the Motor Enthusiasts

Arias right there. You could probably go with the D16A6 pistons under your Z6 head to give you something close to the compression you want. Do the math.

Exospeed is one of the last holdouts for D series engine modding- there are other stores, but I can't really think of that many right now.

i like how you wanted me to do my homework and you posted another link after. Hahah

Thanks Man, came to my rescue yet again.

Do you guys really think i should get sleeves? I mean i remember reading somewhere to not do it because you can buy like 5 blocks for the price of having 1 sleeved, so it be a waste. Could i get away with just a guard? That 1000$ is a BIG chunk out of my wallet and will set me wayyyyyyy back in my build if i bought them now.

Oh an Calesta, i just used the site for Arias pistons, and entered the specs into a compression calculator. It's coming up 8.8:1 with turbo pistons, and 11.1:1 with all motor pistons. So im gettin no where near my goal.

It's not just the cost of the new cheapo block- it's the cost of putting all your internals back into it and make sure that everything lines up properly. Every time you blow it up, you still have to rebuild it- unless you don't mod the internals. If you're going to spend the money on new bearings, aftermarket pistons etc- just bulletproof the block.

The 9:1 D16A6 pistons under the D16Z6 head should get you pretty close to your 10:1.

How are you going about determining this? Every calculator i find online, or formula comes up way over my goal.
Just some more information for ya though, i have:
ZC block
8.5:1 Vitara's
Eagle Rods
D16Z6 head
stock valvetrain
D16Z6 triple layer headgasket

Apparently i have a 8.1:1 cp with this setup according to all the calculators/forumla's i use. Hopefully your right, and it simplifies my searches down to just deciding on a brand.

Thanks!

Well, if you load up the calculator with a 9:1 setup with an A6 head, then change the combustion chamber size to the Z6, it comes up with 9.6:1. Just play around with it and you can get there. You could deck the block 20 thousandths of an inch (.5mm) and get right up to your 10:1 using 9:1 A6 pistons under the Z6 head.
