ok I am getting ready to swap a h22 into a 92 honda accord that has a auto tranny, now what i want to know is if i keep the tranny auto and put a shift kit in it so i can shift at higher rpm will i get the same preformes out of the motor that has a manual tranny, so should i go with an auto with shift kit or manual? any help would be great

If you got the money and means to go manual I say do it!

I stuck with Auto cuz I was broke from having twin boys born the same day my car was done with the swap.

^ Wouldn't that depend on how good you are at shifting? I mean I drove my stepdad's car and I couldn't get out of a stop sign cause the slope was ridiculous and the car wouldn't kick in first lol... << newb

It depends. If it's an auto transmission that's been purposefully built for performance, then yeah, an auto can be faster. When you're talking about a typical 4-speed Honda automatic though, then no, the 5-speed will be quicker.

You're not one of those people who goes around shifting their automatic all the time, are you? If so, stop. You'll go faster letting it shift by itself...

What? How do you shift an auto?? o_O

My stepdad's car is a manual, i was learning to drive stick.

Just because you suck at it doesn't mean its the better choice.

dont put a bandaid on a bullet wound.

learn to drive.

I meant it as in would a good auto transmission be better than a regular guy using stick shift... I would guess nowdays good auto transmissions would be decent at shifting, maybe not on a Honda...

Like I said, it all depends. If the auto was purposefully built for high performance, then yeah, it would probably win because it can shift faster then any person can. With Honda automatics though, they're rarely built for performance, more so for fuel economy. The manual equivalent of most all of Honda's automatics are faster...

^ Right, I just didn't think B got what I was saying. Anyhow, what did you mean by "shifting their automatic all the time"? Are you talking about using the different gears on the auto?

Since there is no DSG for honda (unless you have an f1 car), its still a torque convetor, not an auto clutch.

it's flat out NOT fun to drive.

and drag racing is boring.

plus, honda auto trannies blow. literally.

Naw it doesnt depend on how your shifting it. A manual tranny will put more horse power on the ground since the motor doesnt have to spin a heavy ass torque convertor. In just about every car built after 1980, the manual will hold up to more power too.

He means shifting your auto by pulling the shifter down into the 2 or 3 gears after D, then clickin em off one by one. The only reason to do that is because you have a modified valvebody, along with a few other components. Now adays the trannies have electronic shift solenoids so they can time their own shifts better than a driver can. In the 60's it wasnt the same.

You know, its funny, they say that about the cool girls too.

lol well thanks I get it now. I really wanted to get a stick shift car but my Accord kicked all of their asses >_>

Seriously, I wouldn't have gotten a 4-cyl Civic for the same price simply because it was manual.

Your car can be converted using parts from an Acural CL. I doubt that you could get it done for very cheap, though.

On a side note, where are you from in Illinois? I lived in Peoria for most of my life...

Yeah I don't think that's happening any time soon if at all, but just out of curiosity around how much would that run?

And I live in the suburbs north of Chicago, in Zion to be more specific.
