hey guys. i bought a 1997 integra, ls non vtec. i ran it at the drag strip last night and the best time i could get was 17.6 seconds.(1/4 mile) i have a aem air intake and cat back exhaust, otherwise stock. anyone else run a fairly stock integra ? i was expectng to run alot fast, just wondering if this is average time or if somethings up wit my car? thx in advance

i ran low sixteens in mine... but the engine was rebuilt right before i bought it. if you wanted my my advice i'd play around with the cam timing first. just make sure you advance and retard a couple degrees at a time

oh dear... sorry for the double post. i forgot to say you need adjustable cam gears to do this. but their pretty cheap and your gonna need them any way (cause i know you wanna make a beast car)

Don't take that advice, you engine is supposed to be timed/tuned properly. If it was that easy to make your car run better honda never would have poured all that money into engineering and design of their vehicles. Best and cheapest way to lower you time is to practice/spend time on the track.

actualy with my civic thath is a 2000 with a d16 i advance the engine timing i can do up to 16.4 with a reaction time of 0.134 maby thiming your engine would be the solution to your problem (little advice advance your timming better performances) but watch out to put at least a level of 89 octane fuel in you tank to avoid engine knoking for more info write back

:werd: Also, if you go jackin with cam timming and you dont know what your doin, you might as well just buy a new long block. Your gunna need it.

Damn near cut a perfect tree.

How'd you do that superman?

I was gunna call him Chuch Norris. After all, Chuck Norris doesnt wait for lights, lights turn for Chuck Norris.

stop me if im wrong here but im fairly certain with the intake timing you can adjust it up to 2 degrees in any circumstance... but thats just what i read off the internet. what else should i say though? check your compression, plugs, all the maintenence you might have overlooked that can kill power. at least your faster than my buddys fiero

go find an old road in the country or somewhere where theres not a lot of cars and partice your launches, i bet you could get your teg to hit flat 16's once u find that sweet spot. but you might wanna check for stuff to replace that would be taking away from power, like said above

My bone stock 97 four door integra LS ran 16.2 with no mods at all, full interior, spare tire and jack in the well. Hell, I had stuff in the trunk. Street tires.

Went to race my crx and mrs phyre wanted in on the fun. So we raced eachother, rex vs teggy.. She even beat a top fueler in it! (of course, his rods were bouncing down the strip, but still, she beat him!)

17.6 is abnormally slow... like everyone else has said, you should be more than 1 second quicker than that.

it wouldnt hurt to do a compression check to make sure your engine is healthy. other than that just practice your launches and when you are at the track air down your tires to about 20-25 psi.

ya, i was getting some wheel hop off the launch, what the best way to eliminate that? i hear guys say air down tires, i hear guys say there are full wheel hop kits,if i were to get a kit, what brands are best or are they all pretty much equally good?

We even had car seats in the back seat. lol We forgot to leave them at the sitter's house.

If there's no CEL, it's not the car.

Driver error. Learn how to drive your car properly. Shifting at the red line doesn't mean you're going faster.

Sorry...i read and didn't see Automatic or Manual???

This could be why the car is slow.

But...at the same time...I saw a RS auto with 3 bolts hit 15.8.......tripped me out. He had the time on his car...no NOS...saw the motor...saw the auto gear box....it was a fast time for an auto non-VTEC Integra...IMO

I saw him hit a 15.86 too

17 is slow...period. How much does driving affect the times at 17 seconds? I would think minimal in comparison of helmet wearing times (< 13.99)

Unless he's peeling out for the first 60ft....lol

What was the 60ft time? That could be a sign

60 ft times were around 2.5-2.7 sec, and i was getting some wheel hop, what would be the best way to eliminate that?

You should be around 2.3...2.2 would be a good one and it'll make up some time at the end for sure....more then the 0.2 difference at 60ft

Wheel hop could be bad shocks but it could be wear the rpm's are when the tires hook up.

You wanna be around 4k when they grab (+/- 200 rpm)

Check the compression of each cylinder?

They should be within, at worst, 10% from lowest to highest cylinder compression.

Like 138-135-140-136 would be pretty good compression and you should be runnign better times for sure

I had an LS swap in my EG si and best time was 14.78 with a 2.2 60ft (6 puck clutch, header, intake and exhaust) So you should be in the low 16's at worst

okay, thx for the help. i did do a compression test they were 140-150. i did find my pcv valve blown in half tho,not sure how that happend but w/e. thx again everyone

Your motor is very worn. at 135psi honda recommends a rebuild/replacement. Should have been 180ish all the way across with a healthy motor.

Make sure you did the test right: All four plugs out, fuel system disabled, crank with the throttle wide open until the needle stops moving.. Usually 7ish strokes.

I thought 180 was too high and seal is too tight? Just what I've heard form mechanics

130-160 is what i thought was an 'acceptable' range but I guess I need to look into honda specs
