Ive searched both here and on Google about which way a B16A best responds to spark plug indexing and I get mixed answers. Whether it be gap towards intake or exhaust valves I can't find. I know it gives minimal gains in both power and efficiency but I figure anything helps and why not learn more about my engine. I also know all engines wont respond the same as there are minor differences among all but a general direction would be appreciated.
 
i know on my SOHC i index the plugs with the electrode opening pointed toward the center of the cylinder.
 
That makes no sense whatsoever..

the question or turbos answer. If its the question im asking "when you index your spark plugs (face the opening of the gap/electrode in the most advantageous direction in the combustion chamber) in a B16 which direction is it best to face said gap?"
 
That post seems V8 mentality when thinking about the spark open

But it does say you want the opening to face the intake side.....so it gets a more efficient burn....in a V8 that would be the case if the mark face outside the center of piston (mark is on the closed side)


Either way points towards the center of the piston...but

In a Honda...it would be the opposite...you want the mark to be on the header side of the motor

I might even try to drill some NGK plugs and see what it does...weird article but it can be proved at the track if all other constraints can be contained and you swap sets of plugs there
 
ok...I'm not sure if its opposite but you want the opening of the plug to face the valves that gas and air are coming in...that makes sense to me at least
 
would be great to have some real data on this. i did it once and kept doing it. not sure if i gained or not, but hell if it helps in the slightest i am for it.

I would skip the whole bit about bending the ground electrode back in fourth. Just weakens the metal and you could end up having the electorode break off and bounce around the cylinder.


The stock V-Power plugs are grooved and eliminate the need for this anyway..
 
On an overhead cam vehicle, it doesn't matter. Indexing plugs only makes a difference non-OHC vehicles, such as an older V8.

I tried this a couplea years back on a dyno when I had the B20/V in my CRX. It didn't make a difference at all where the plugs were facing, and I made passes with nitrous and without. Neither one changed anything.
