Even though I have my Mini-Me I've been messing around with my other stock D16A6.

I converted it to manual so I had to get a non-automatic ECU. My uncle had a 1990 Si hatch with a bunch of headwork and he said he had a "chip" in the PM6 ECU. When I say chip I think it was a $10 eBay chip, not actually tuned. Anyway the car was hot, hehe, so he parted it out and gave me the ECU.

It runs great and it actually seems like its "peppy"-er than it should be for like 90 HP to the wheels. I gave it some gas and hit a rev-limiter at 7000 RPM. I didn't think the Si's had rev-limiters. Did they?

All hondas have limiters. The factory pm6, I believe; is 7414rpm.

You're going straight to hell for using parts from a "hot" car. If you mean stolen, Fuck you.

Can't be iv hit 8000 on my a6! hehe

My limiter is straight at 7000.

I'm sorry, I won't do it again. The car was parted out in like 2002 and I got the ECU last summer. I also live like 1000 miles away from my uncle. The rumor is he parted out the car and buried the shell, like in the ground. But thats a rumor.

It's around 6800-7000. You can't judge that off your tachometer anyway- you really need something to read the speed directly off the ECU to be totally accurate. Sometimes there's error as high as 400-500rpm on the tach.

Hmmmmm. Thank you. I was very suprised it actually had one, even though I'll never hit it...well...not never.:)

Why not? I hit mine all the time... in all my cars.
Well I guess I was thinking it was a 1990 Honda, how many cars in 1990 had rev-limiters. Come to think of it any EFI car should be easy to put a limiter on.

My dad is the one hitting the limiter. He hits it in my Mini-Me and the S2K quite a bit.

I would actually like one thing cleared up while I'm here, what is the difference between a rev-limiter and a fuel cut, if there is any?

Hmmmm. My stock A6 bounces while the Z6 just stops at like 7200 RPM, it doesn't bounce it just won't go past it. I was maybe thinking one car has a limiter and the other has a fuel cut.

Gotcha. I hit it in the S every now and then, but try not to since they like to throw the retainers past 9k. Hopefully mine doesn't have that problem.

The fuel cut is just that- the ECU stops the flow of fuel to the engine. On a setup with a fuel cut limiter, the limit tends to be what I call "rude." You hit it and the car feels like it hits a brick wall, then power comes back again. Try to drive a GM truck past 97mph and you'll know what I mean.

An ignition limited engine still supplies fuel to the engine- it just rolls back the ignition to not let the engine rev any higher. The S2k uses this kind of limiter. You'll hit the redline and bounce off of it, but it tends to be a smooth limit- no bucking or weird drivability issues. You'll just know that the engine won't go any higher.

Given the two options, ignition limiters are the way to go. My dad's 98 Camry had an ignition limiter at 3900rpm in top gear. It just wouldn't go any faster- but no bucking or jerking around like a GM truck. Oh, same for a 2008 Impala @ 107 and a 2008 Expedition @ 100. Both ignition limiters.

:D

since your on rev limiters and such...I had a 2004 ford focus...my god I hated this car. If I went around a turn too fast...it would cut the acceleration, causing me not to be able to gas it AT ALL. Uphill onramp was my worst nightmare...it cut the acceration going up it and would not go again at all. Had to turn the car off and sit on the on ramp off to the side for a min. It sometimes would also just turn off and lock the steering wheel...going down the road...talk about shitty. Get to about 110 and it would cut the acceleration until you got back to 105 or something close to that...I traded that piece for my first crx, and now I'm onto my second.

Thats funny, my dad calls his S2000 the "S" too. He got it from his workmate, he calls his M3 the "M". Or he says its "M'n" weather.

:shrug2: I just got sick of saying "ess two thousand" every time. "S" is so much easier.

Sounds like you were running into fuel starvation issues going around the turns, had a faulty ignition switch, and had a rude fuel cut at the speed limiter.
