i have a '93 civic sedan dx with a d15b7 in it now, which is shot. i also have a 95 civic coupe ex with a d16z6 in it, but is wrecked, every thing is still there. what would need to be done to swap the z6 into the car that has the b7 in it? i know the motor will go right in, but the wiring is different. can i use the engine harness and plug it right up? or, do i still have to wire it my self? is my car already wired up to the engine compartment? or, do i have to go all the way to the ecu? i aint no mechanic, but i can do it with the right info.

use everything from the D16Z6 the engine harness will plug in at the shock tower... then just run the wires for VTEC from the ECU to the harness plugs on the shock tower (probly much easier than replacing the whole interior harness) that should be about all there is to do

should i do the complete swap? (comp. d16z6 engine)
or, just fression up the block and do a mini me swap?

which would have more power?

which would u do?
either way i would still have to wire up the v-tec....right?

if youve got the Z6 just use it ... you will need to run the VTEC wires from the ECU to the shocktower thats it ... not worth doing a mini me if you dont have to

:werd:

The transmission on the Z6 will have better gearing also, so swap the whole thing and don't bother with tearing two engines apart. You'd probably have to spend extra cash replacing stuff in the B7 if it's shot anyway... so just chunk the whole thing and don't bother with the mini-me.

Which wires are needed for VTEC ?

I am starting this swap. what wires do I need to run? Does anyone know the pinout for this?

Thanks, Bill-H

make sure to use the ecu out of your coupe. As for the wiring... OBD1 Honda ECU pinouts - Honda Forum / Acura Forum - SuperHonda.com
I believe you need to wire in A4 & D6. If your lucky your car (like all 1992 civics) will already have wires coming from those two ecu spots that will run to the first wire harness connector called a cannon, which is under your hood above the passenger side wheel right by your battery. If it is wired to there then you can just wire in right there to your vtec solenoid. Otherwise you may need to wire in directly at the ecu, which you will be able to use donor parts from your non-vtec ecu if needed (but I'd try anything else cause I sold my non-vtec ecu on ebay for $60.00 :). You will also need to run another wire from your Vtec solenoid to a good ground spot. Thats 3 wires total. 2 to the ecu and 1 to a ground. Hope this helps.

Ecu

I may have the Distributor for sale after this swap is done. I am hoing to have the new engine in this weekend. Once it's running, I'll let ya know whats up.

Thanks, Bill,

Utrax42 , ECU question

So I should use the old ECU (93 Civic DX) ? or the one that is in the donor car (the car the new engine came FROM, it's a 95 EX Civic EX Coupe) I figured I needed this ECU for the VTEC to work.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn another record. 6 years 4 months 0 days! Almost goes back to the last reboot of the board.... and after mine was the last post. Damn I've been on this site for too long!

By the way Bill, welcome to HondaSwap! You set a record on your first post. Congratulations. :D

Correction on the wiring. Yes you do use the D16Z6 harness but Civics dont have the plug at the shock tower thats on Integras. So just remove the D15 harness from the ecu carefully pull it through the fire wall and remove the harness from the engine bay. Do the reverse for the Z6 harness. This will also eliminate the need to add any wiring for Vtec. And use the P28 ECU for the Z6 the ecu the B7 ecu does not have the Vtec timing and fuel maps for the Z6. Everything else should bolt right up. Good luck and have fun doing the swap and driving the car after the swap.

wat are you talkin about? you dont have to pull anything through the firewall. the z6 harness plugs into the chasis harness at the shock tower. that harness wont even pull through the firewall. theres wires that run all through the dash and cabin

i have a 94 civic and was goin to do the same swap, i goin to buy a 95 civic that that was the d16z6 in it and it runs, what all am i goin to have to swap to put the vtec in my 94

Even MORE questions

1st, TY Calesta, I have a way of doing things like that:cool:.

B, inrenseneal, The 93 civic DIES have the plugs, and while I will have the engine harness, I won't have the chassis harness. So, my understanding is, that all I need to do is run the 2 vtec wires from the ECU plug to the main plug on the pass strut tower plug. Then add a ground or 1 of the VTEC sensors?

Lastly, I won't be driving this car, I am doing this swap for my step son. He is working like 3 jobs and has no transportation (his GF is running him now). I am just trying to get a car back on the road for him.

Correct. The first time I swapped my Z6 in place of my B7 I literally used All of the B7 Wire harness. As for hooking up Vtec, your correct on the 3 wires, but you may need to run the wires all the way from the ECU to the plug on your VTEC Solenoid. It really depends on your car, just look at the two holes on your ecu that are for VTEC, and if they are empty you will need to run wire from the ECU to solenoid. Does that make sense? sorry I'm not great at explaining :spin:

ECU Wiring

It looks like we are going to use one of the kits from RYWire

In the long run I think this will be alot easier.

I have the engine mated to the transmission and hung in the car, now all I have to do is get everything all hooked up. Should have it together by the weekend.
