Considered by many enthusiasts as the ultimate modern Ferrari, the limited-edition Enzo’s replacement will be a tough act to follow up for the Italian automaker. The second-generation Enzo, also named after the marque’s illustrious founder, promises to take performance – and, surprisingly, efficiency – to a new level.
Like the original Enzo, the car’s successor will be a range-topping supercar aimed at immortalizing the legendary founder of the brand. Available only to select current Ferrari owners, the next-generation Enzo will serve as the brand’s performance and technology showcase.
Based – at least in concept – on the Ferrari Millechili show car (though the production Enzo replacement won’t carry that name), the performance car will be loaded with the technology learned from years of Formula 1 experience.
Expected to be powered by a mid-mounted V8 engine, rather than the Maserati-based V12 that motivated the Enzo, power should easily exceed 700 horsepower. Though fuel efficiency is hardly a Ferrari selling point, the car must conform to more recent European Union standards, meaning a new emphasis has been placed on reducing consumption. It has been rumored that Ferrari will use twin-turbocharging to make the most out of a smaller-displacement (think under 6 liters) V8 engine.
Key to addressing the fuel economy issue is a significant weight and size reduction, which should bring the car well down from the just-over 3,000 lbs. of its predecessor; rumors out of Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters indicate that weight could approach 2,200 lbs. Improved aerodynamics, including adjustable front and rear spoilers, will not only help the new Enzo stick to the road at maximum speeds, but it will also ensure reduced fuel consumption.
Its platform could go one of two ways: Either a heavily-modified version of the FXX race car’s architecture – itself a variation of the road-going Enzo – or a slightly longer derivative of the F430’s aluminum space frame.
Production will probably be at least as limited as the original Enzo, meaning no more than 400 of the 1 million Euro-plus supercars will emerge from Maranello when it goes on sale in over a year’s time.

Looks like something straight out of an anime flick!

I do like it though. A 2200 pound 700hp super car. That should be an incredible ride.

It might even be as fast as the arial atom!

That is really cool. Way to much money. I would rather have the atom except I don't want the ecotech cobalt motor in it.

I thought they put a few different power plants in those Atoms. The one I remember seeing on top gear had a super charged Honda CTR K20, i think.

The F40 is still > than all others.

Yeah, as of a couple of years ago anyway, you could option up to the supercharged CTR motor.

And the atom > F40. lol.

Just checked out Welcome to Ariel Atom

Comes standard with the k20 now. And there is a new beast!

Ariel Atom 500 V8. Best power/weight ratio available in a production car. Eat shit, bugatti.
Russell Savory designed 2.4 litre V8 engine coupled to a 6 speed sequential Sadev gearbox. Developing over 500bhp at 10,000rpm the supercharged engine features all alloy construction, 5 valves per cylinder and a dry sump.

Yeah the one on Top Gear was a supercharged K20 but I think recently they have switched to the Cobalt SS motor.

wonder if you could drop the engine from a Radical SR8 in the Atom :hmm:

Atleast with the atom you wouldn't have to worry about getting door dings or pay out the ass to have it serviced compared to the Ferrari.

Or pay out the ass to own it. Atoms are $65,000. You simply cannot touch the performance of an atom in any production car anywhere else for any price. The atom 2 does 0-100 in 6.86 seconds, and stops 100-0 in 3.8 seconds, and corners hard enough to cause neck injuries.

Enzo loses in every perfomance catagory vs the atom. And costs $1,000,000. You could have 10 atoms and build a track to race them on for that price.

^ Yeah but they look like short F1 cars. With an Enzo you have both speed and style. Its not just a performance thing, its about flashing how much cash you can pull out of your a$$.

That 500bhp engine sounds like a Radical V8....2.4l v8, 10k rpm, etc.

Ferarri Enzo's are not for "flashing cash", they're all performance oriented. They don't look how they do for looks, but aerodynamics. The high price is because they're limited production.

the atom is BARELY a car though. i mean, its like putting a 100lb fighter up against Brock Lesnar.... it's not even close to the same thing

the topgear episode i recorded on the DVR says its a supercharged B16B out of a CTR
