Obama: $1300 more per car for emissions

It's gonna get ugly when Alaska writes more and more legislation striking down the presidents proposals. We already enacted legislation prohibiting state funds being used for RealID, this will be one more in a long list of rejected Federal legislation.
This man has caused more division in this country than any other president in my life.

I hope someone runs him over with a Prius.

"If they don't want to buy domestic, we'll make it more expensive to buy a car in general! Fuck you America, I always win!"

Hmmm.. maybe this could prompt Honda to truly bring back the CR-X??? Just think about it...

They did, when they released the 1st gen Insight. Not much people bought it I guess(even though I could never find one at the dealership).

that page is too white.. hurts my freakin eyes man...

We were watching Obama's press confrence on this yesterday at work. We're all concerned because this is going to kill the entire industry. For a car to reach a 35.5 mpg average, were talking an average of city and highway mpg, the car is going to have to be a hybrid form of a golf cart. Look at the Insight, the cheapest hybrid on the market. Cost's 20k for less room and performance than a 14k similarly equiped fit. That $1300 number is a bunch of BS.

B is right. Enjoy what you consider your car for the next 5 years. You will begin to see changes within the next couple years. I wonder what they mean by EPA tailpipe regulations. Are new car standards going to be tougher, or are they going to start e-checking all cars in the country.

Don't be such doomsdayers.

While I don't agree with the government stepping in, hopefully the positive possibility of this legislation will be getting people who do not need SUVs, out of SUVs and will force car companies to become more innovative.

The market never demanded a performance car that reached those efficiency figures. The Tesla and the prototype by Chevy prove that an efficient performance vehicle can be made. I doubt this goes into place without heavy modification, just like the CAFE standards kept being pushed further and further back due to lobbying from auto manufacturers and oil producers.

The average American is too stupid to conserve and just blindly spends their way into debt and is wasteful. People are so quick to forget $4/gallon gas. Fuck you kindly, get out of your asinine SUV that you drive little Johnny to and from school in help be a part of the solution. As soon as the markets rise again, oil is rising again too. Maybe not $147/barrel but certainly $90-$100, while gas is already back up to $2.15/gallon.

the average car on the road doesn't even get 30mpg highway. only the micro crap and hybrids. how they are going to get a whole fleet to average 34 is simply absurd.

oil is already up. i've seen $2.70 for premium already. Up almost $1

my car gets over 35mpg, has motorwork, and pisses oil out the tailpipe.

i dont see why new cars have this problem when mine, beat to shit and nearly 10 years old, can achieve it.

people seem to forget that the cars of yesteryear were able to break 35mpg often.

Maybe smaller cars but larger cars like the Accords average about mid 20s MPG.

I'm talking about after 90. I have a 92 Accord, and a 90 before that(both LX coupes), and they were rated 28mpg hwy.

The only thing that I have seen change between then and now is the amout of luxury items and saftey enhancments. Which both contribute to the wheight.

It is not the job of the Federal Government to force behavior modification through legislation. The CAFE standards will be raised little by little each year. And who else is looking forward to the sky high gas prices that will result from this? Anyone?

my crx gets 48 mpg. its a 91 and it aint even a electric motor. I say bring the hf back, throw an electric motor on the side, and *BAM*......you got urself a revolutionary vehicle. Easy as that Mr Obama.

you dont' get it. to be legal, you need 6 more airbags, door renforcements and crumple zones.

a crx wouldnt' be legal if it rolled off the lot today.

you guys are all butthurt about nothing. none of you would buy a brand new car to begin with. second, if you did, you would modify and drop the mileage anyways. and if you didn't modify it, you would realize it's ok to have a luxury car.

this needs to happen. how can you tell me that we can put someone on the moon, but we can't make a 50mpg car? the companies just haven't had a reason to do this. it's that simple. BMW will still make a kick ass M3. it will probably get 30MPG on a turbo V6 or something. the fleet has to AVERAGE 35mpg. so there will be 2 guzzlers, 2 econo hybrids, and 2 cars at average. it will just decrease the number of cars on the market and the total purchases of new cars.

Release a solar powered car with a model aircraft motor that powers a generator. It'll be a slow worthless piece of shit, but it'll get 98678907689 miles to the gallon, thus increasing the mpg average of the entire fleet to 40mpg. Then release a 2000hp corvette that gets 2mpg just to say "Fuck you, obama."
