hey guys I'm new to this honda sceen so be easyy if the subject has come up already cause I find nothing about it in here. with that being said... I have a 91 da integra with an ls vtec in it but the rings are shot so I picked up a jdm b16 and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this setup was smog leagal on cali? thanks for any help in advance! ;)
 
It should be as long as all the proper emissions equipment is hooked up and functioning and you're not switching OBD setups. I would contact someone from the BAR to be sure though...
 
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO it is not. any JDM swap is no longer legal in CA, unless you are simply replacing the USDM equivalent... even if you downgrade for some reason (i.e. b18-b16), it wont pass the ref anymore, NO granddaddy clause. I think this started about two weeks ago, theres a thread somewhere.
 
so if i got pulled over with a JDM h22 there actualy gonna open my hood and look at my engine...real talk

It was legal until a few months (in some cases days) ago.

Yes if you got pulled over for something and the cop thought you had a hot motor or a JDM one...he'll pop your hood. h22 is a no brainer...no brain needed to see that isn't stock in a civic or teg but I've popped the hood in my hatch (back with LS swap) and the cop just gave me crap about the intake. So it depends on the cop

So-Cal cops know what's up....way more then Nor-Cal
 
I realize its a 91 teg but wouldnt the b17 count as a USDM equivalent?
 
damn that sucks!! i have a 91 DA with a b16a that I've been working on to pass smog!! will it still work if i went to a shitty shop that didn't care so much about the engine type as long as is passed visual etc....
