So I'm finally thinking about purchasing a game system and I am torn between these two systems. I've always been partial to Sony since I've owned both PS1 and PS2. They both have their ups and downs, and I know that sometimes it's just personal preference, but I'd like to hear peoples opinions and experiences with each.

I've kind of laid out my thought process:

Xbox
Good: Better game selection, FFXIII+ (square enix jumped ship), better online capabilities
Bad: No built in wi-fi (need $70 adapter unit), red ring of death (have they fixed this?), controller battery life is rumored to be terrible, multiple dvds for longer games

PS3
Good: More cpu power (I read somewhere that current games are only using 2 out of the 4 cores built in the machine), GT5 (whenever it comes out), Blu-ray capabilitiy, single blu-ray disc for longer games, built in wi-fi
Bad: Not as many good games available, more expensive, unorganized online features

Thoughts?

Square didn't really jump ship. It's coming out for both and that's been known/rumored for two years now. Ported versions are never better. Look at any EA game for PS3. They make everything for the Xbox then port to the more capable machine and it looks horrid.

Playstation network is really really lagging comparatively but I don't have any Internet friends so that didn't matter to me.

As far as the batteries in 360 controllers.. go out and spend the extra on the rechargable pack for it, problem solved.

Plus the fact that IDK why you are asking this question you know everyone is just going to tell you to buy a 360.

For some reason I thought FXIII was going to be xbox exclusive, but I was wrong so that's good news.

ballers have both..but 360 FTW...i love playing forza with the regulars from here...even though i havent played in forever

It's just unfortunate when the choice is between an overpriced machine with too many features (that I most likely won't use) and a games library that's not exactly impressive... and a machine with an awesome game library and the tendency to explode.

Also, I know that the xbox has this feature... but does the PS3 have the capability where you can just plug in an external HDD to it (via usb) and access it through a browser of some sort, in order to play movies or play music, etc etc ???

Forza 3 isn't even out yet dude....

i can vouch for this. i've played Forza 3...a lot....

360 has streaming netflix

ps3 has blue ray
Forza 3? Because they just released major info on it at E3.

I own both, the PS3 is pretty much strictly a bluray player. At E3, MS announced streaming 1080P with 5.1 audio will be available soon. I'm still glad I have a bluray player because I'm sure you'll be charged for each one, whereas I have Netflix. But, if they set it up for a monthly fee instead of paying per movie, I'd sell my PS3 in a heartbeat.

Newer 360's aren't as prone to the RROD, but it still happens. I've had mine for over 2 years now, and it gets constant use because of games and media extender capabilities. It's still running like a champ. Just keep it in a ventilated area.

I own a 360 and have never touched a PS3 so I am obviously biased. I vote for 360, most everyone I know owns a 360. One friend of mine owns a PS3 and he seems to enjoy it but he hasn't spent the 25 bucks or whatever it is on a Bluray movie yet. I am of the opinion that physical format media is going to die sooner rather than later. RRoD is more or less solved from what I can tell. Even then MS did a damn fine job of getting me my stuff back quickly. I have had it happen twice, and if my newest box RRings again I will simply send it back and solider on. XBL is a huge selling point for me, the integration of media is also a factor. Over all I love my 360, it isn't just a gaming machine it is multi faceted. Not sure how important this is to you but Facebook and Twitter will have clients on the 360 by end of the year I believe, it maybe a little later than that but either way.

You just love it when I talk shit to fatass glitchers from Marion Ohio on COD4. lol

I vote for the xbox myself.

my buddy bought a ps3 and rarely uses it.. plays his 360 more

People are modding their 360s to permanently get rid of RRoD. Even then, out of 5-6 people I know, I'm the only one that had RRoD.

As far as the battery issue goes, my cousin had that problem but turns out it's the charger...the USB wire charger that plugs into the controller does not work very well. He bought a external charger and everything works fine.

Yeah as far as batteries for the controller, spend the 20 bucks for a charger and rechargable batteries. Depending on how much you play you'll save yourself a shitton of money. I'll go through a set of batteries every two days and stick them back in to charge. I have 8 rechargables right now, I could play for 4 days straight.

Are you using batteries or battery packs?

Well, I have both, but the battery packs outlast my Duracell 1800mAh rechargeable batteries.
