I just went through the Motorcycle Riding course offered at the local college, passed it, and I"m going to get a bike.

I'm thinking a cbr600rr.

That must be wet weight, dry weight is around 360-370 new ones put out around 120 or so hp.
All 600 super sports from 2000+ can rip off a 10 second 1/4 mile with the right rider in 100% stock form.

As long as you're able to control your right arm, as with learn how to not get comfy since 80mph on a backroad on a supersport feels very slow, they tend to catch you off guard if you dont know what you're getting into. It's not always the straight line power that gets you, its going into a turn way to fast and not knowing that if you pushed the bike it will make it.

Let me know when you get some riding under your belt, head down my way, see the Z, and we'll hit up the local backroads (great for motorcycles) it should make for a nice easy ride for me =)
 
the all white 09 gixxers are sooo sexy. and the R6 for 09 has an equally sexy orange paint job. If that's not your thing both come in all black and as good or better performers. ZX6R is sick as well in black green or team monster trim.

Double0si, I'm thinking about the honda, because I think ABS is something that's extremelyl nice to have in an emergency. When I was taking the german license training, it was on a bike with ABS, and the instructor took the fuse out of the ABS system, taught me how to do everything, then put the fuse back in..... So much easier to stop on a surface like sand. You can't control surfaces, but at least with ABS you'll have a better shot at surviving it.
 
I didn't know they had that. that is a definite plus. I remember a time I could have used that... Didn't dump it but still, FUCKIN RACCOONS!!!

The first thing I'd do if I had an ABS bike is remove the ABS fuse.

ABS is great for bikes when you're riding them day in and day out, Suzuki Bandit, Yamaha Z1000, Honda VFR, all great bikes for things like ABS, Sport Touring bikes...For a super sport bike..... NO, that's like putting traction control on a true sports car.........

Also as to buying a bike, the only thing you should base buying a bike on is what bike fits your ass. Go and sit on all the current models and find what bikes fits YOU the best.

Looks wise.... yes there's a difference but not enough to buy one bike that looks great and fits you like shit over a great fitting bike that looks ok.
I like my GSX-R looks great from the sides and the back but the front is shaddy, the R1 and the RR of 07 (when I got my bike) looked better, but none fit my ass like the GSX-R
 
Lol, yeah. I totaled a dodge neon rental car because of a deer, some snow, a lack of ABS, an axle that snapped, and a differental that went poop.

I think if that car had ABS it would have been a little different.

Not the same. I'd commute on a 600rr all day. You'll get used to it.
 
since buying the bike commuting has become a highlight of the day. grab a decent bookbag (i picked up an under armor one for about $40) and you can still bring along just about anything you need. Its really not bad at all.
 
One of my coworkers has both 06' cbr 600 and an 07 vfr800. He rides the vfr twice as much as the other one because it's so much more comfortable and has a better powerband for DD.
 
other peoples opinions on these matters are null and void.
you need to find the bike that fits you, as said above, you cant base it off looks.
you need to go sit and try different bikes.
sit on all of them, not just sit, but put yourself in the position of riding, and stay there for about 10 min. that will help make the correct decision.

abs on a bike? no, i think i'll do without.

i have a guy that i work with, he has a gsxr. every time we start talking about bikes he says "You need to get a gsxr 750" (what he has)
i tell him that i want a R6. he says thats stupid and a waste.

he is an idiot, just doesnt understand that if a person isnt comfy on a bike, then its going to be a terrible bike.
 
invisibledemon: I know. I have yet to go into a dealership and sit on a bike in there for anywhere longer than about 3 minutes. I'll be sure to do it. Thanks for the tip.

I know that I'm going to be riding it everywhere, and I don't think I'll ride it as often if I get a sportsbike. Sportsbikes are for one thing, motorsports. I want a decent all-around bike that I can ride every single day it's not pouring rain or snowing or icy.

ABS I'm still not sure about. I've seen the demonstrations about ABS and I think that it'd be a good thing to have, but I'm still glad that DOT hasn't required it in every single bike. It's not needed for everyone, no, but I'm pretty sure that I am one of those people who don't need it. Time will tell.

Not if you've ever touched a 1000.

I could never go back to a 600 for a commuter, zero torque, 6500-7000RPMs at ALL TIMES. even when in 6th gear... 3 to 4 gear down shifts so you can pass cars.

I wouldn't even do a VFR, if I had to do 1 bike for a daily rider, I'd go with an SV1000
 
I found myself most comfortable on a cbr600, but Jeffie is absolutely correct on them being a pain in the ass as a commuter compared to a 1000. Lots of shifting/revving. After admitting that, I'm still completely fine with my 600, even after driving 1000's. Some people are just too forceful with their opinions. I also had someone breathing down my throat about getting a 1k, but I had my reasons for getting a 600, got a 600 and love my 600. If I were to ever get another RR to commute and have fun here in FL, it would more than likely be a 1k. If I ever move where there are decent roads to ride, I'd keep my 600.
