I'm just curious, why is it so popular for people to install used drop-in engines? Are Hondas not like other brands like GM for instance where you can buy a brand new crate engine? How much are you really saving by buying a used drop-in?

they have no new crate engines. best you can get isa a remanufactured engine.

thats not true. you can buy engines from the dealership.

the cost is extremely high. a guy i know paid $4000 for a gsr long block from the dealer. however you can buy a used jdm version for less than $2000.

yeah but not for
exp. 92 prelude.....

Isn't it law for any maufacturer to manufacture parts for vehicles, atv's, etc. for 20 years after the model is built even if it is discontinued? A local Kawasaki dealer told me this.

Maybe so, but the real explanation is we're all cheap as hell, thus the reason for driving a Honda in the first place, and used parts are just another way to pinch some pennies.

They make tons of extra parts during the normal production run. A "brand new" gsr longblock purchased at the dealership was probably manufactured in the 90's.

I think if I were to get my hands on a brand new oem type r long block, i'd put it on display and stare at it lovingly..

I wouldn't have the heart to put it in a car, lol

Yeah I was just wondering this because you wouldn't have trouble finding your engine, just go down to the dealer and get one.
