Heres a super nub question.

This is for a '90 CRX btw.

Bought a new hood latch cable for my car, old one was cut in half somewhere behind the fender. I installed the mechanism under the dash and routed the cable back through the fender and clipped it in place. I pulled off the hood latch mechanism from the t-bar so i can see how it snaps in. The mechanism is designed for the cable to enter from the left(passenger side) and snap in place. Well i dont have a clue where to run/hide this cable to route it over to the passenger side of the engine bay, AND when i was test fitting the cable into the latch, the little ball would snap in, and the fitting on the plastic coating wouldnt reach the spot where it snaps in.. If this is confusing heres a picture.

The end of the cable needs to snap in to the clip on the bracket, but if i try to pull it then it pulls on the spring mechanism and just leavs the at a constant "release" state.

I wrapped the cable around to the left side to show how it wants to be mounted.

Now ive tried pullin on the cable to get some more slack, and there are no obvious pieces to adjust the cable length so im stumped.

I feel like such a noob right now, hood latch cable installs are supposed to be easy so i have to be over thinkin this or something.

the cable comes out the driver side and it stays on the driver side and under the radiator support and just makes a turn into the bracket

yeah mine never seemed to have anything to do with the passenger side (89 and 91 rexes) - also, for what it's worth - this seems to be one of the things that just starts sucking on a CRX. :D mine's kinda shitty, have to pound a fist on the hood sometimes to get it to release.

never replaced one though. i just keep adjusting the damned thing.

good luck.

What he saying is that the cable goes into the left side of the release, not that it comes out of the firewall on the left.

Shame on you! lol

Pull it off, soak it with carb cleaner.. wait a few minutes, spray it off really well with carb cleaner. Clean it up as well as you can with rags / old toothbrush / whatever. Make sure the cleaner is 100% evaporated, then re-grease it with motorcycle chain lube or a similar grease. Don't use silicone or wd-40. Do the same thing for the spring mechanism that is attatched to the hood. make sure everything is lined up exactly right, reinstall, adjust to perfection, and enjoy your clean easy breezy brand spanking new feeling hood release.

Whole process takes 20 minutes.

Your have only post thats relevant to my issue. lol

But can someone please tell me what i can possibly try. Its like the plastic coating is a 1/4" too long but its been like crimped on with metal so i cant just cut it back..

I really need to get this fixed so i can worry about other things before my upcoming inspection.

turns out, i was sold a defective cable. The inner cable is actually to short and thats why what happens happens.

Great.

Anyone know how to cut back at the plastic coatin and adjust it?
The plastic piece at the end needs to come back a 1/4" but like i said its crimped with metal.
Any suggestions?

I was going say you may have got the wrong cable. Cut the ball of the cable, pull the cable out cut how ever much off the housing then put a barrel nut on the cable and adjust as needed.
