At any speed over 60km/h (straight line) i here a humming sound from my front passenger side wheel area, when i turn left (which shifts the weight to that side) it gets louder and i can feel it in the steering wheel. Turning right makes the sound disappear completely.

Does this sound like a wheel bearing? If so, should i just replace both sides anyway?

i would replace both.to check and see if it is indeed a wheel bearing jack the car up and grab the tire on the top and bottom and move it back and forth and see if you feel any play then do the same thing by grabbing the left and right of the tire.you shouldnt feel any play.hope this helps

:werd: What he said.

Someone with 2 posts helping people out and not annoying everyone they come across? This is craziness.

But yeah, it its a high mileage vehicle and you haven't done bearings, do them both. Because its likely that the other will eat shit soon.

Thats the plan, tie rods, ball joints, bearings, bushings, brakes... however i think the CV boots are ok, i had one replaced last year.

When you have the wheel off, make sure the metal splash/dust guard behind the rotor isn't rubbing. I had that problem with my EK and it felt like a wheel bearing going out. I was having the same effects as you, but idk about the pulling.

Either way im gonna get them to look at it all tomorrow hopefully, i refused a moderate highway drive because of my paranoia lol.

You are a genius, thats exactly what it was!

In fact the whole front checked out awesome, nothing at except for a brake flex line and a brake hardware kit. Thanks for everyone who helped, no wheel fallin off on the highway for me lol.

Very sexy indeed. However my rear main seal is still leaking a bit, so thats the next big thing. Ill need to save up a bit for that once since ill likely replace the clutch when its all off.

I was out of state for a bit, didn't get to jump back on till meow. Glad I could help and good to hear it was something so simple. Wheel bearings can be a major bitch sometimes.

K turns out the sound is still there, same as before. They told me they dont hear anything and think im just imagining things. Ive shown some other people the noise and they think its the tires. Mostly that front passenger one. The tires are a little nasty, cracking and such. Both my buddies and Honda told me i need new tires very soon. Could the tires make that kinda noise?

They insist my bearings are good and everything.

I'd say absolutely get new tires. Just yesterday I had a tire that had great tread, but some cracks that I thought nothing of go out on me. Tires can do way more things than just explode and you never know if an internal part is worse than how it looks on the outside. For example, the steel belt(s)/strap went out on my tire. It held air but it was as if my round tire suddenly became square while doing 80. I got real lucky it didn't blow before I pulled over. But yeah, of all things that can decide to stop working while operating your vehicle, tires are probably the most deadly. I know, brakes/steering and what not can do, but that isn't extremely common. But yeah, a lot of us still ride on shitty tires cause we're cheap.

Ok, off the soap box =P. I don't know the exact sound, but tires are surely capable of making humming sounds at higher speeds. One or more could be off balance(sounds like what it is to me), slightly warped or have a bent rim. Maybe a weight fell off your rim?

Another suggestion is to mark both sides of your rotor with a crayon or chalk, drive 20 ft or w/e without hitting the brakes. Get out and see if any of the marking is gone. Should be none unless you have brand new pads.

Just to be sure, I'd make sure that plate is still bent back pretty good. When mine was rubbing, I didn't bend the shield back far enough the first time and the sound came back after about a week. Sorry if I'm smothering you with random BS, just trying to help. GL.

Very helpful thanks. The plate is completely off so it cant be that anymore. Tires most likely, hopefully not the rim. Ill get new tires this week hopefully and if it doesnt go away its back to the drawing board.

Thanks alot to everyone, especially Kanned.

Ill get back to you as soon as i get some tires ....... i dont have money for this shit lol, credit card here i come.

Defintely could be your tires. I thought the rear wheel bearing were bad on my 95 civic and I went to start taking it apart and saw some crazy shit on my tires. They must have been dry rotted or something, because the car sat for a long time. However there was tons of tread life left. But every section of tread was sticking out at a different height. I replaced the tires and it got rid of the noise completly. I couldnt believe how much quieter the car was, you could actually hear the engine humming along on the highway, which I could never hear before.

Once again, very glad I could be of some use for once. lol, hooray for debt. I just got back from a 1,600 mile road trip and of course my upstream o2 sensor went out 1 day before leaving($80). Then my battery went out while we were loading up the car to leave($90. Was it's time anyhow). Finally, my tire goes out while cruising down the highway($160 for two). Guess it's been coming since my car's been so good to me.

I highly recommend getting an alignment after new tires if you had any sort of issues like this. Kind of common sense to eliminate a major possibility and you should get one anyhow.

True, an alignment would be a good idea, at some places its standard. I am planning on making a decent highway trip next week, by decent i mean about 600-700 kms there and back. Its to visit my GF who happens to be away all summer. This is going to be my first real major highway drive, average speeds of 110-140km/h (yes im metric get over it). I wont be used to the hours of 4000RPM the whole way lol, for some reason is worries me, like a car shouldnt be revving that high for soo long. But its a Honda its meant to. Im excited and nervous about this trip too. Im not leaving town without new(er) tires.

400 series highways (in Ontario) can be nasty.
