So 2 days ago my reverse decided it didn't want to work, i thought it was due to a leak around the drain plug, but only very little leaked out and when I checked it I didn't appear that hardly any had leaked out from plain view when I took the speed sensor off to check/add it. However, I was able to add a quart to it, which I don't know how, but it did. Then i Had a friend push me back and it started to go into reverse a little.I didn't go all the way but it would work. he suggested maybe I had too much oil in after adding it, so I drained approx. the quart out and it sometimes goes all the way into reverse (i think) but other times it gives me trouble, and it doesn't feel as though it goes all the way into gear..it works, but it's still not right...I haven't had the swap even a year yet, and it came from Hmotorsonline. It is so clean and has ran so good, I wouldn't think it should be a big issue with the tranny, or I would hope not, but someone please help me on this because I am out of ideas...

I don't even remember, My dad suggested it may be a problem with the clutch, I thought the clutch was ok but who knows..what other info do you want on the tranny? It is the B16 tranny Sir2, manual of course, I used 10w-30 oil in it..

so its a hydro trans, you could of had a problem with the clutch cable or clutch master cylinder depending on what set up you are running. It sounds like the clutch to me

dump that shit 10w-30 and go to honda and buy 3Qts of MTF add 2.3Qts of of the MTF and be done.

how much does trans fluid really have to do with reverse gear? if it goes forward ok but not reverse than reverse gear is out..maybe broken teeth or something internal. hows the trans setup? cable to hydro? grinding in gears?

It may be that he over filled it and draining that crap and refilling it with the proper level of what is supposed to be in there cant hurt. Or it could be too late and you sheered a few teeth and now its hit and miss. Just look at the difference in consistency and you know motor oil shouldnt even be considered.

Your tranny/engine and most anything else that takes fluids will almost always have room for more fluid but that doesnt mean it is necessary to fill it all the way. ALWAYS pay attention to the proper levels suggested by the manufacturer. This is an example of when more is not better and in fact leads to problems.

well my friend seems to think it may be the synchro..i've had 10W-30 in it since I have had the swap, thats what they guy from Hmotors and even what the Honda manual suggest you use in the tranny...as far as level, I don't see a way to check it. The only way I see to check it, is the just look at it through in the hole under the speed sensor where I have to add it... The only reason I added any was because I had a small leak in the drain plug, and I thought that could have been the problem. It goes into gear half the time, the other not all the way but it still works. 5th gear grinded a couple of times..not every time though. Either way Imma have to take it to a shop to fix the problem, as long as it's working imma drive it as is for now..

that's exactly what I did, and as I said before when I checked it It wasn't to the very top of the hole, but there was only a little gap in it, and I was able to add about a quart untill it overflowed on me..and I still drained the quart back out just incase I may have overfilled it..either way the issue still isn't fixed completely...it's working so I will drive on for now, but I like for my car to be running correctly, however time to have my car stuck at a shop for a day or two is not a resource that I really have right now, untill I absolutely have to..but if that is what it is going to be coming down to (taking it to a shop) than I will..I was just hoping there was something I could do that could have been the problem to avoid that..but thanks for all of your help, and I shall see how it plays out.

too much fluid isnt gonna make reverse go out. and where did you fill it, the hole where the speed sensor goes? you know there is a fill hole on the side of the trans. it has a 17mm plug. this is where you check fluid level

lolz at filling it thru the speedo hole. Well im verry sorry to tell you that revers is un syncronized and it it wont go into reverse or move when the car is in reverse your trans is going to have to come out and be take to a shop or ship it off. And also 10w30 is just fine in these trans for cars that are under 300whp after that i run GM syncromesh till over 500hp then its redline lightweight shock proof gear oil. has worked very well and i havent seen a trans fail from improper lube yet been building them for about 5yrs now

some ppl fill it thru the speedo hole but that thing never comes off easy lol..and you could do that but filling it till the oil comes out wayy up top there is def adding wayy too much. grinding and losing reverse gear def means internal problems that fluid isnt gonna fix

well putting that aside, and I dunno if i should start another thread or not but, When I take it out to get it fixed. What are your thought's on having LSD installed while its out??? Is it really worth the money? I would go def. go with a quality LSD..

well it may need to be rebuilt anyways...and having them install an lsd while its apart wouldnt be a bad idea. def worth it...id get a quaife. theyre really good

that would be ridiculous if it needs to be rebuilt, the swap is not that old, i got it from a reputable company (hmotorsonline), cleanest swap i've ever seen and I don't think i've had it even a year yet.. I would be mighty upset if it comes down to that..but the thing is I know the basic reasoning or advantage of LSD, but to invest over $1000 for it???? that's another thing...

well let me put it to you like this about the lsd I used to 1.90 6ft my car on 24x8x13 slicks i now 60ft 1.50 and 1.60s with the same tires and a quaife.

HmMmMm interesting..quite a difference there..how much did it cost you to have the quaife installed???

i build transmissions for a living so $0000.

and im sory ro tell you that reverse on a honda trans mission dosent go out for no reason besides abuse
