I had CNN on while at work, muted of course, during the whole madoff thingy, one of the quotes written out on the lower part of the TV was

"I lost my life savings, the government has let me down"

I'm sorry, what?

Since when was the government in charge of my savings? Does someone really want that? It just bothers me like no other that people really want the government to have that kind of power. I want have the option of pissing away all of my savings on a single horse race if I want to, or give all my savings to some random guy to invest it or takes it and pulls a madoff, that's MY money. I guess that person wanted a government worker to step in and look over their investments for them.

One day we will be just like the Humans in Wall-e.....

What really scares me is when I saw that, I told some customers, look at that, who in their right mind would blame the government for their bad choices. The customers looked at me like are you serious?

Sigh.....

the government is like having a girlfriend. you want it around when you need company or want to get laid. But then you have to deal with the bad times too.

armericans are too fucking stupid to understand that you have to have a middle ground. you don't get to pick when and how the government is involved.

just like hurricane katrina. oh, the government didn't help us get out of here. HELLO PEOPLE, they told you to evacuate. You CHOSE to stay. If you do something stupid, fess up to it. But don't ASK for more government involvement because you two sided fucktards know that if the government comes in, you will be pissed off about that too.

It wasn't supposed to be up to the feds to help with Katrina in the first place. The national guard, originally, was meant to be commanded by that state's governor. The first weeks of Katrina were a heyday of "this is my jurisdiction" nonsense back and forth between the Governor of Louisiana and G. Dubya.

Nothing got done until G. Dubya over-extended his authority, took control of FEMA (which was under-funded since the late 90s) and Congress passed a new bill allowing the President to deploy any and all national guard troops wherever he wanted.

Only problem was the fact that people who couldn't be in charge were, and no one was listening to them.

I always forget to post something about the original topic. Yes, its sad when people try to rely on the government when they're in trouble for something the government isn't supposed to be involved in.

but they also complain about it when the government is involved. some people just NEED something to bitch about. Americans don't realize that you can't "have your cake and eat it too..."

What do you expect? Thats what the country was founded on 233 years ago. People needing leadership, but distrusting it in every possible way.

yet you call me communist when i say the government should take a stronghold on situations like this.

people either need to be happy with government control or stfu about madoff and other stuff the government "isn't protecting you from". This isn't a "magic" card game where you get to deal the "government protection" card when your opponent plays the "steal your money, love 10 life points" card.

They really shouldn't. The Government has grown too much as it is, so much so that some economists have lost faith in the dollar altogether and worry that we'll lose the dollar as the backbone of the world economy. In the other thread, B explained why people are stupid and those who financially can't play the market, shouldn't. I agree, which is why I won't be trying to buy or sell stocks for a long time.

If you can't pay, don't play. The government should have nothing to do with it at all. I still think you're a communist, though. :)

i might have my acts confused but wasn't the glass steeple act brought about because of situations like this with people manipulating the markets etc?
and hasn't the act been repealed piece by piece until we're back in the same hole as what brought it about in the first place circa great depression times

I had to go to the post office today. The entire time i was imagining the place was a hospital. I hope our healthcare professionals' morale does not degrade to the lvl of other state employees under gobama's new healthplan. . . .

yes i know this is entirely offtopic
