For those of us who are employed, how do you keep yourselves entertained besides browsing the web? I make random BS out of nuts/bolts on my desk, juggle stress balls, toss around 10 lb bags till I can't feel my arms and lots of other crap that doesn't come to mind atm.

All this sittin around is gonna be the death of me. I don't want to do roof work again, but I like some physical activity.

i keep myself entertained by working. you know, that thing you get paid for? the more i do the more money i make. i receive a salary AND commission based upon hourly billing to my clients.

not trying to be a dick, but maybe the US could be better off if people at work actually DID work instead of browsing the web and chatting with friends all day ;)

Ass.

When I have stuff to do, I do it. Because I don't drag stuff out, and I do it as soon as I can, I'm not busy all day long.

Well stop chatting online and get to work.

You have a very valid point, but before chewing me out you could've considered that maybe I have to sit still to do my job. I operate a machine very important to my company and they forbid me from doing anything but monitor/operate the machine. Most of its processes are ungodly slow(1-2 hours) and it has tons of sensors to stop itself before the naked eye could see a malfunction(generally). Give me the option to work harder to benefit myself and I will. Until then, I'll continue my trend.

you're talking to the wrong guy ;)

i think most jobs should be volume/commission based. your pay would reflect how productive you are.

He was talking to me, because I'm on AIM all day.

What he doesn't notice is when I drop off AIM for hours at a time while working on other things. My job means being at work from 0700 to 1700 every day, and sometimes I wind up staying later. I don't feel too bad for spending an hour or so dicking around on the internets throughout the day.

Hey, you called me out and I was simply explaining my side.
We're on the same page with pay for performance, but it's impossible with my job. The machine/programs are extremely unpredictable and can take 10 min or 4 hours to repair. I like the trade I'm getting experienc in, but it sure has its cons.

Anyhow, pay for performance is a great idea on an individual basis. I think pairing people up is unfair.

nah dont take offense, i didnt mean to make you think i called you out. i was thinking more-so the general populous.

i also agree pairing is unfair.

when i was working 3rd shift and bored out of my mind, i made hondaswap what it is. moonlighting at its finest.

There is a whole lot of chatting going on in this thread and not enough work being done. Companies are losing money right now.

I hear ya. My work day is from 6-4:30 and I stay late a lot too. What's bs is all I have is a 5min break and a 40 min lunch, even when I work over. Damn slave drivers :(

falling asleep at work for me would be impossible.... the marina is always so busy and there is no shade, and if youve ever been to south florida you know how hot it is.

"Let's rush: If we don't, the company and world will perish."

Quote from a sign that the Cannon President had placed in the hallway of one of their office buildies. And also, no one is allowed to sit. Because sitting is for the weak.
