In looking to prepare my budget for the rest of the year, wanted to poll the group to see what others are paying for child care costs.

State:
# of children
Cost per child/wk.
Do you use a FSA account?

Thanks :)

I have one kid and don't pay a dime. The girlfriend and I are lucky ebough to where she can stay home. But the going rate here in washington for one kid is around 800 a month.

holy fuck $800 month...thats an Audi RS4 payment with no money down for 72 months

$156 per week for 2 kids. ($78/kid/weeek)

We don't use an FSA.

Your numbers are going to be wildly different depending on what town you live in and what kind of care is available.

completely understandable. I wish it was only going to be 78/week. lol.

Although its only going to be 8% or so of our total take home, I'm going to miss that extra 700+ in our pocket.

i've seen anywhere from $1.50-$5/hr plus a little bit for food.

it's a strong cost vs. salary comparison. it just means you need to make that much more to be worthwhile. i would try to find a family friend, nanny, niece/nephew, college kids on break etc to try to do it during the day until the kids are in pre-school.

there are a lot of variables like area you live, child's age and what kind of services are provided. My son is 7 and costs me 125 a week with breakfast and lunch included.

A good friend of mine was paying 600 a month for a newborn. Mom supplied the meals, but that was a daycare in a private home with no other kids. I'm not too sure on how much the "chain" type day care centers charge.

I'm in Michigan.

What the fuck is the point in creating a child if you are just going to pay someone to watch it. I'll admit, I'm a little drunk right now, so it probably isnt right for me to judge, but shit, you talk about your kids like a god damn cable bill. Equate the infinite satisfaction of procreation into a car payment. For you non-parents, you can't understand. Life is NOT MONEY. Money is slavery. You spend your life earning money so that you won't be burdened by what truly matters. How infinitely stupid to waste your life earning worthless paper just to give it to someone who gets the privilege of experiencing all the amazing things that your child will do in it's first years. How about you cut out the middle man, quit your job, lower your "quality of living" and immensely enrich your quality of life by spending every possible waking moment of your life with your child.

So you expect both parents to quite their job and stay home and literally stare at a newborn that sleeps 16-18 hours a fucking day? Gee thats smart.

Maybe the plan is for both of us to work until he's 2 or so and my wife will cease working until he goes to school when their enrichment is at an all time high. Maybe we're trying to save money now so he can be afforded a private school education.

Maybe our daycare provider is my aunt so he won't be with a total fucking stranger.

God I hate fucks that make that statement about daycare. Fuckin assumptions man. Go smoke some hillbilly pot and chill the fuck out.

you obviously do not live in the same world everyone else lives in.....no one WANTS to put there kids in daycare.....and there is certainly nothing wrong with it at all.....Day Care is not RAISING your kids....they are taking caring of theirs needs while the parents work hard so the kid has the things he needs later in life.....you do realize that over 230,000 babies are born a minute world wide.....your suggesting each parent quit there jobs because they have a kid....yes imagine that, lets just say %5 of those parents are working...thats 11,500 people a minute wordwide quitting there jobs, forclosing on there homes because you think they should lower their quality of life just because they had a baby....

No one should pay any attention to this rediculous thought process....

If you don't understand, I can't make you. Have fun spending your time working for money that you'll give to someone else so they can spend their time with your kids. Then criticize my logic

I have already critized your logic in my post above. Its simply old-fashioned logic that is simply to unrealistic to achieve in today's day & age in the territory that most people live in. Both my wife and I have worked hard to get where we are in life and our career and while we will love and cherish everything about our son, sending him to daycare doesn't mean we love him any less when we will be trying to provide him with a far superior childhood than her or I ever experienced.

Are you trying to be a maverick like your governor?
