Bill Gates-- making the mouse obsolete

i would hate to have a touch screen.

reaching to my monitor everytime i neede to click something would ruin my back, and my monitor would be a disgusting fingerprinted mess every other day.

i'll keep my mouse, mr. gates. go sell that useless crap to apple. they like building useless crap like this :)

You don't touch anything. The camera monitors your movements. Still a pain in the ass.

I fail to see how waving your hand is a pain in the ass haha. It would be really great for tv and some video games no doubt. I don't see a huge market for pc computing however. I guarntee the porn industry jumps on it though. Dvds with girls talking all sluty depending on what your doin.

Think about it.. You move your hand a total of 4 inches to navigate a computer via mouse.. You move your finger 1/16th of an inch to click something. There is absolutely no effort at all required to work a mouse. You would get tired after waving your arms all over the place for hours on end.

Keyboard is the same.

I'm still waiting on the neuroscience guys to refine their stuff.. I can stare, think, and have the computer do whatever I please. Although every three seconds I'll have to close a porn page that pops up over what I'm doing.

well, seems that myself and phyregod are right on par.

im just Meh about the whole thing.

it will prolly work but im sure it will be slower than the mouse movement. so i will prolly keep the mouse

Looks like it's pretty nice for a home entertainment system. As for computers, I'll just stick with a regular mouse.

im thinking that half of the computer geeks out there could use the extra exercise

Exercise while gaming? Wii.
Control console through movement? Playstation eye.

Playstation Eye vs. Xbox Natal.

You're pretty stepping into a better console debate. IMO, what this demonstrates is how accurate and functional Microsoft is able to make it.

The idea behind Natal is that you don't have to hold anything, with the PlayStation eye you have to use that snow cone looking think. Natal is reported to have 1:1 movement control like the PlayStation Eye minus the snow cone wand. And I would much rather control my media front end in the living room by waiving my hand to change channels, fast forward pause etc etch. Than get up while I am relaxing in the couch to find the remote.

^ Exactly, couldn't count how many times I've had to stop what I'm doing to figure out wth I did with the remote. Besides the fact that I think this is insanely cool, think about all the awesome things this could do to better integrate technology into our daily lives. The truth is our bodies aren't made to use mice and keyboards, but they are perfectly adapted to making hand/arm movements. Its simply more natural, therefore more intuitive and overall more efficient.

The issue here is that current operating systems are based around a GUI that's intended for keyboard/mouse combination. If they made an OS designed to work specifically with this kind of technology (which I'm sure they will if it catches on) it would be amazing.
