Ok.. Anyone have any advise as to which satellite TV service is the best? Any to avoid like the plague? I'm sick of my fuzzy ass cable and they just removed the discovery channel.. Which is pretty much the only channel I watch. Other than the learning channel, which was deleted. And speed, which after swearing it wouldn't cover nascar has become the fucking nascar channel..

Anyway.. Dish network, Pegasus, Direct TV, etc etc.. Who and why? or why not?

they all suck....Dishnetwork doesn't have YES Network....they both charge you to come out to repair shit.....unlike cable....and they lock you in

I would try ATT Uverse if you can... i like it...no problems what so ever

I had Dishnetwork for awhile paid $175 term fee to get rid of it.....

make sure you check the channel line up so your aware of what stations they carry and dont carry whatever service you choose

I heard good things about Verizon FIOS but i think its more $$$ and again i think they lock you in like cell phone companies...

if you can, get the Verizon FIoS tv. i personally dont have it, but everyone i know has nothing but good things to say about it.

FIOS is expensive still. We have direct tv here, really no complaints. All paid tv pisses me off anyway, there are no good channels anymore. Military/History channel all replay the same shit each and every night. SPEED has turned into the fucking NASCAR channel. USA is putting out some okay shows though so it isnt all horrible.

Just looked into fios. I am already with verizon for internet and phone.. Would have only bumped my bill by $30 because of a package deal. And... Its not available in my freakin area. sigh.

Did they put you on the notification list for fios? They are rolling it out pretty dang quick.

Yup. Should get an email some day. Same thing I had to do to get their DSL, waited 2 or 3 years for that.

Shitty :S From what I have heard in the bigger metro areas they are working pretty damn hard on getting it out.

I know the network here has been changed over to fiber. The switch is only 200ish feet from my house and it is on fiber.. But they run copper wires from there to the houses.. its close.

That sounds alot like fiber to the curb stuff. What kinda speeds are you getting now?

3 down, 1.5 up. Been that way since I got DSL though. Thats all I'm paying for. They have installed the fiber network since then..

:withstupid:

You will be more pissed with satellite. I had it for nearly two years, everytime a single drop of water would fall from the sky I'd lose my picture.

You know those commercials "everytime the dog sneezed, we'd lose picture!" Its true. I got fed up with my 60/month only to be able to watch tv when I wasn't home, because when I was or it'd snow/rain, I'd have no picture.

Don't go satellite, just run a coax from your neighbors house to yours & save some money.

Except that the picture is completely fuxored. I am on cable now and they deleted discovery and their picture sucks ass.. Done with cable. I wouldn't bother stealing it.

I like the free to air thing, but any way you slice it, its got to be illegal. I might watch 2 hours of TV a week.. Not worth messing with it that much and risking a fine.

sigh.

Then get/hook up an antenna and suffice with the free local channels. I watch more tv a week than you do, and 90% of what I ever watched was on free over the air channels. If your tv is new enough you shouldn't need a converter box.

$60*12 = $720 a year in savings for you. Just think of all the little things you buy the CRX for that.

that thread is from 09-17-2005, 05:56 PM, you sure things haven't changed. My parents had Dish and loved it until they found that they could not get HD service via Dish because of signal issues.

I cancelled my satellite last year, nothing has changed.

my old man started with a dish in 99 or 2000
i would say it was less than 5 days a year that we ran into a signal problem
my old man still has it, not sure on the brand

phyre...your cable company got rid of Discovery Channel? how dumb is that!!! thats one of my fave channels.

hell if anything, watcg stuff over on hulu.com. thats where ive been watching tv shows on recently.
