So i had my car painted championship white a few weeks ago.. and they had stripped the car to bare metal to fix all the dings etc. I started to notice bubbles formin on the driver side rear qtr.

Question is.. do i just sand it down and have the spot sprayed? or will the colors not match because it will come out slightly different shades of white. Or what....

Its really bugging me, and i want my car to look nice. Problem is i may have to for up money to have them fix that spot event though it was their fault. They say "it wont be perfect cuz the car is 20 years old". But screw them, i want it to be.

well it should be pretty easy to blend the paint to match the rest of the car with it being only a few weeks old,

Wait, you paid for a paint job and they screwed it up, but are using the age of the car as an excuse?

Fuck that, take it back to them till you're happy with it.

I know, its a BS excuse.

Problem is its my DD, so giving the car back again is gonna be a pain in the ass.

But ill let you guys know what happens.

i'm not attacking you personally, but a couple guys on here are getting paint jobs and not lining up second cars. don't slack on the quality of paint because you need a car right away. rent a car or borrow one if need be. $500 to get the spot fixed is more expensive than $100 to rent a car for 3 days.

First off, regardless of how old the car is, if taken ALL the way down to bare metal, there should be no rust left.

If the panel needed replacing, the shop should have informed you so.

The shop got lazy. Take it back to them and tell them to fix it. It's their fault, DO NOT let them tell you otherwise.

I talked to someone and they said they are gonna sand down the area and respray it so its gone. Plus the car needs a good re wet sand and buff.

All good. Just waiting on some booth time.

I went to school for auto body repair for two years and worked for a few shops once I got out, if you got a paintjob and it starts to bubble in a few weeks than they seriously screwed up.
I would make them repaint the whole car because the reason why the rust is coming back is because of poor prep work.
I bet the car was not primed properly. and someone has touched it and there was slight surface rust before they even painted it.
Good luck but I would want them to redo the whole thing plus it depends on the type of color you have you usually can tell if you do just a spot treatment it never looks right

at the same time, you get what you pay for. if you paid like 400 bucks for it i wouldn't expect too much, but yeah, i agree with everyone else, go in there and raise hell, if that doesnt work, tell them (if they are a reputable paint shop) you are gonna take it to the press. could work.

I paid $2200. For body work and paint.

Sounds like they took it to bare metal and didnt seal it. Leave an un-sealed spot of bare metal for even a day and it could get surface rust on it. And thats just one spot so far. Who knows how much could come up in the future. I would make them fix it at no cost to yourself. And if anything else comes up THEN you raise hell and go for a respray of the entire car.

oh trust me. if another spot comes up im demanding a respray cuz the time I was without the car and the money I spent is BS. thanks guys lol.
