Hi, I am new to this forum and I have a question for a friend of mine.

He has a Del Sol 5 speed that came with a 1.6 DOHC and a spare motor which is a 1.5 (not sure which one is the original motor). The 1.6 blew up and he wants to put in the 1.5. What does he need for the swap? I imagine he will need a computer/wiring harness. Will the transmission bolt up OK?

Thanks in advance for your help!

we realy need more info than that. what series are the engines. i am asuming that they are both d-series?

I just spoke to my friend, it is a 95 Del Sol and the 1.6 is the original engine. The 1.5 we know nothing about. I told him it may be a good idea to source another 1.6 and sell the 1.5.

Does anyone know what other Honda models have the same 1.6 that came in the 95 Del Sol?

Obviously B16 to D15.

Any D15 with 92-95 Civic D-series mounts, linkage, and axles will work.

If you're looking specifically for a B16, look to the 99-00 Si. Really, any B-series should drop in.

If you want to use that D15, then you'll need a D-series transmission as well. Honestly I would just sell it and look for another B16...

I just did some research online, looks like the original motor is a B16A3, specific to only the 94 - 95 Del Sol, but the A2 looks pretty much identical and probably more readily available.

if its truly a factory b16 sol (look for the letters EG2 in the VIN) it would be criminal to put a SOHC engine it.

Sounds to me, you and your friend don't know much about Honda's i would suggest before you guys bite off more than you chew is to just find another stock engine that originally came with the Del sol, there around sometimes you can find good deals look for a guy that don't know nothing about Honda's that has the same car you do or engine that you do and try to buy it for supper cheap.

Well my buddy jumped in with 2 feet and picked up a B16A1 from an Acura Integra that was rear ended for $500. Will there be any issues with this swap? Will he need to use any of his injection components? The seller said it fits the 88 - 93 Integra or 88 - 91 Civic.

you meant the b18a1.

From what i've heard it takes some work to get a b18 to fit in a delsol, (more so than just dropping into a eg).

if your buddies car was originally a B series car, it will drop right in and bolt up to your tranny, and will have considerably less horsepower than the B16 your removing, congrats on the score. If the car originally came with a D series engine, you guys have a bit more parts to source, and some work to do. Just for shits, feel like posting the first the 6 digits of the VIN number, and the engine code off the engine in the car right now, the easiest place to find it is on the timing cover, will be a 5 digit code, something like B16a3, D16a6 etc etc.... Personally, I still have no idea exactly what your dealing with here. Does the car have rear disc or drum brakes? And what is the factory redline on the gauge cluster in the car?

btw, i take back what i said. b18 should drop in fine.

He said dohc 1.6, so that means its an eg2.

Anyway, b4 your friend drops the motor in, tell him to build the block for LSV while he's at it. It will give more power, and might as well, since he already has to swap it anyway.

Not really. With the B18 he's looking at 140 horses compared to the B16's 160, but, the LS will have more torque, so it's not that bad of a swap...

with a B18 rated at 142hp, 127 torque, and the B16 rated at 160hp, and 111 torque, I doubt 16ft lbs is going to make any difference. Ill stick with my B16 over that engine any day, and Id bet a B16 will be faster overall than a B18 swapped Sol, even assuming both are using the B16 tranny.

I didn't say it would be hella faster, I just said that it won't feel like a slug...
