any thoughts on why my car just quit running turns over but wont start my plugs are covered in oil could my rings be bad ??

no the fuel pump is kickin on but i have had issues with the main relay.... but reguardless that wouldnt cause the plugs to be drenched in oil would it

No i dont think it would. Does it smoke like a train? You could do a compression test.

no smoke yea i am going to do a compression test here in the next day or two but when it does decide to start you can smell alot of fuel and it just sputters the shuts right back off ...think the distributor may be bad ??

You plugs are covered in oil? on the tip where the spark is created or on the upper part where the wire connects to the plug.

That is why your car isn't starting and staying on, you have valve seals leaking. and you need to get those fixed, but it wont be easy, you are going to have to pull the head apart.

i had the same thing happen to me when i first got my b16when you take the valve cover off there are little orings under the sparkplug hole replace then that was my problembut it could very well be from the valve seals as well but i dont see that happening if you never smoked

thanks ill pull the head off soon but isnt it kinda of odd saying if it is the seals for all of them to go at once

where the spark is created

He said where the spark is created, which means the tip, not the shaft of the plug, only the top part would be soaked if it was the seals that go between the valve cover and the head, the valve stem seals cover the tip of the plug that creates the spark, and it has the possiblity to be the head gasket too

ok well guess il be teraing it apart this weekend to see whats up

if the oil is on the bottom of the plug (were the spark is created) it definatly would not be valve cover seals. Like the person said earlier its prob valve seals or rings if its all 4 and it happened all of a sudden I would def check comp but either way take the head apart do a wet and dry comp check so you can determine main cause thats pretty weird that it happened all of a sudden and NO SMOKE hmmm.

yup no smoke at all kinda jack about it just shutting off but it happens and thanks for every ones thoughts/inputs ill be checking out the compression and tearing the head apart this week

my brother drives a 91 civic lx. 1.5 lt, he was driving it the other day...and it just quit while he was moving down the road. at this point it wont start at all, just cranks and cranks but wont start. we have fuel, spark, but still nothing. the code from the ecu is 16, injection system defective etc...replaced main relay, nothing changed. re checked ecu.... no code since we reset it when changing the main relay. any one have any ideas whats going on here??

Start your own thread. I'm sure then someone would be glad to help. Thread-jacking just gets you flamed. especially when its nearly a three month old thread.

sorry bout that...new to forum...hence the green horn.....not completely familiar with how to do start a new thread...
