I want to swap a motor for the stock 1.6 and build something that will run for 300,000 miles. I want more than 115hp which is what my stock 98 hx coupe has. Options and opinions are welcomed. Dont be stupid and tell me ls1 or v10.

old shcool mercedes diesel. lol most well-maintained honda motors are good for 200k before needing a re-build... but 300k is pushing it.

the toyota 22RE has been known to go over 300,000.

realistically, you wont own a car for more than 100,000 miles.

ok well then -- how bout a bulletproof engine build for a daily driver. ???

what the hell are you trying to do? are you just looking for a commuter that wont blow up? do regular maintenence on any car and it will be fine.

stock is pretty much as bullet proof as you're going to get.
'

yep.. as long as you maintain it and dont beat the piss out of it.. it'll run for a long time

I want a regular commuter that wont blow up and has more hp than 115. Im going from a 2008 specV with 200 horse into this 98 civic with 115 and i feel like im driving like a granny.

it's a friggin honda, what do you expect? i mean really, you have a honda. an HX at that. it's made for high miles and high gas mileage. not power. Any car is going to be reliable if you take care of it and drive normal.

there is a correlation between power and gas mileage. you have to pick which is more important and go from there. you want speed AND gas mileage, get a motorcycle.

I think you missed the point of this thread. What would be a better more for a little more power so i can pull out in traffic and still be a reliable daily driver thats gonna give me more then 20 mpg

any honda motor. but you asked for something that will last for 300k, which is ridiculous.

any b-series motor would be fine in your honda. you just have to take care of it.

personally, i'd keep the hx stock and enjoy 40mpg on the commute. and then, buy another fun car to get 8mpg in with your fuel savings over a year's driving.

pretty much. but everybody expects a honda to last for 300k, get 50mpg and have the power of a big block v-8.

stop being greedy. lol

so you want quick but still very reliable? swap in a stock low mileage GSR or ITR motor.

nah sounds like he needs some more indestructible... something missile-proof, cuz it sounds like bullet-proof just ain't enough. What you need, is a type R motor, sleeve it and fill it with custom forged parts that are good up to 500bhp but keep the revs at stock. Bam, problem solved.

Realistically, any b-series motor if taken car of, will be faster than ur d. And if you do some regular maintenance and take care of it, it will last you long enough.
