My Speedometer is not working and the check engine light is on.

My Odometer is working though.

Will changing the VSS fix this problem?

Does anyone have instructions on how?

umm.. have you tried checking the codes from teh ecu? i'm sure it'll explain why the speedo isnt working..

changing a VSS is easy.. 2 bolts.. pull it out, replace

The code red P0 500, which is the VSS.

Where is the VSS located on a civic 99 si?

on the passenger top side of the tranny, kinda behind the motor, below the thermostat

When I say under the hood does this mean jacking up the car and looking for the vss there? On top of the transmission, I can't locate the vss. I've been told its on top of the transmission but I can't find it.

It's on top of the transmission.

Get a shop manual and go to the index. Look under V. Go to VSS. Follow directions.

the Vehicle speed sensor (vss) if you are getting confused looking at a manual than take it to a shop cuase i know for a fact they are called vss in every manual ive read thru

I changed the VSS and it didnt fix the problem.

The Speedo and Odometer is still not working.

What could be the problem? Wiring?
