My friend gave a a 1998 1.6L coupe ex with a big hole in the block. I just bought a d16y8 motor from a race car and going to rebuild the engine. I need a little help finding some info on where to get the best pistons and eagle rods, bearings, and thrust washers and engine gasket kit.

I was told this race motor was rebuilt with new race bearings and bored out with new rings. with a ported and polished head recentlly (a month ago) only 4 races on motor i guess.

I want to go through it and make the engine like new but with reliable high performance components for a dailly driver isted of driving my hemi 1500

I am a swiss machinist and know enough on motors to dissasemble and maybe rebuild myself. Any information would be lovely

I just pulled the motor in the car and trying to think what my next step should be. rebuild the motor or throw it in see what it does.

I say put it in and see what it does.
Why rebuild it if is a running motor? Use it as is and then see if you need to rebuild, tune up or whatever has to be done to get it running right.
It's a race motor you said, what kind of racing and did they tell the condition of the motor before it was sold to you?

doesn't hurt to just try the motor.

will do

The engine is torn down to just the head and the block. I think i might just swap all the mounts and sensors and throw it in. see how it runs. Thanks

yeah

I was told by the engine builder he machined/bored/honed the block and put race acl main bearings in the block back in may/june. The guy did about 4 races at about 20 or so laps each race im guessing and then sold me the engine. Thats why i am concerned about the motor. The head looks spectacular compared to the one i pulled out of the blown motor. Its ported on the intake side. The engine builder said he installed used pistons but put new rings in. So what do you think should i install it or put new pistons in. I tore the orig. motor apart took all the sensors and mounts off so it should be just a swap.
