I've been watching Glenn Beck for a while now, and he's really been beating a loud drum lately. I quite often will dissmiss a lot of what he and his (op ed news show hosts) like have to say, simply because they get paid to be over the top and attract an audiance. His thing on the czars really has had me thinking so I decided to do some fact checking of my own and i was supprised to find on my first check, Van Jones, that he was right on point with his rants. So I figured I would post some links and such in case anyone out there is interested.

Fisrt off we should never have a Czar (Tsar) in this country.

czar (zär, tsär)
n.
 1. also tsar or tzar (zär, tsär) A male monarch or emperor, especially one of the emperors who ruled Russia until the revolution of 1917.
 2. A person having great power; an autocrat: "the square-jawed, ruddy complacency of Jack Farrell, the czar of the Fifteenth Street police station" (Ernest Hemingway).
 3. Informal An appointed official having special powers to regulate or supervise an activity: a racetrack czar; an energy czar.

[Russian tsar', from Old Russian tsĭsarĭ, emperor, king, from Old Church Slavonic tsěsarĭ, from Gothic kaisar, from Greek, from Latin Caesar, emperor; see caesar.]
czar'dom n.
Usage Note: The word czar can also be spelled tsar. Czar is the most common form in American usage and the one nearly always employed in the extended senses "any tyrant" or informally, "one in authority." But tsar is preferred by most scholars of Slavic studies as a more accurate transliteration of the Russian and is often found in scholarly writing
with reference to one of the Russian emperors.

Now onto the list and my first of Van Jones.

16. Green Jobs Czar - Van Jones

• Rose from near obscurity in the Oakland, Calif., grassroots organizing scene to the leader of a national movement to spur the green economy.
• Founded Green For All, an organization focused on creating green jobs in impoverished areas
• Also co-founder of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and Color of Change, which includes Bay Area PoliceWatch, a group devoted to "protect[ing] the community from police misconduct"
• Published New York Times best-seller The Green Collar Economy: How One Solution Can Fix Our Two Biggest Problems, in October 2008
• Started career as a prison-reform advocate in Oakland, Calif., lobbying for reform of the juvenile justice system and youth-violence prevention programs
• Has law degree from Yale
• 2007: worked on the Green Jobs Act with then-Rep. Hilda Solis (D-Calif.), who co-sponsored the bill in the House
• 1993: was arrested at the Los Angeles riots that followed the acquittal of cops in the Rodney King beating. "I was arrested simply for being a police observer," says Jones, who had just graduated from Yale Law School and was working with the Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights in San Francisco.
• 1999: was arrested in the 1999 Seattle protests against the World Trade Organization
• Excerpt from a Nov. 2005 interview in the East Bay Express:
Jones had planned to move to Washington, DC, and had already landed a job and an apartment there. But in jail, he said, "I met all these young radical people of color -- I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.'" Although he already had a plane ticket, he decided to stay in San Francisco. "I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary." In the months that followed, he let go of any lingering thoughts that he might fit in with the status quo. "I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th," he said. "By August, I was a communist." In 1994, the young activists formed a socialist collective, Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM, which held study groups on the theories of Marx and Lenin and dreamed of a multiracial socialist utopia. They protested police brutality and got arrested for crashing through police barricades. In 1996, Jones decided to launch his own operation, which he named the Ella Baker Center after an unsung hero of the civil-rights movement.

I have listened to Becks radio show for quite a few years now. He does come off very over the top, I think thats why every media outlet calls him a quack/etc, but I have always thought 90% of his points were valid. The shit he talks about, and most of the points he makes, are just fucking common sense.

People do need to know about this shit.

I started listening to Beck around two years ago and I feel he has been on the spot most of the time. And having read a few of his books they are even more on point. The other nice thing about Beck is that he does not hammer religion like it is going out of style, sure he makes it clear where he stands on religion but it is not zealot level. Now with that in mind he is not my only source of information I double check things I have an issue with and look for the other side of the story. But his over all message of Common Sense and reason is what keeps me coming back. Plus he is a pretty funny dude over all.

I am just glad that there are still folks out there spending time an energy researching these things. Regardless of how folks feel about Beck, Rush, Savage, and Hannity we need folks like them to ensure a proper balance within the media.

Common Sense is on my list of books to read. I think I'm gonna pick it up next weekend before I head out of town.

He is loud and over the top, but he makes sense.

Common Sense is a very good book. But as Beck says, it is a starting point to enable you to do more research on your own.

Have you never heard of US Drug Czar's? Fucking turn off tv news and start being a productive member of society.

And what exactly have the US Drug Czar's done for this country? Seems to me that drug use is at an all time high. As is production/smuggeling. But this is another debate for another thread.

The problem with Czar's is that they are appointed by the President. They are not elected public officials, they do not require senate confirmation and it is usually very hard to find out where they come from, why they where hired and what the hell it is they do exactly.

exactly! they circumvent our constitution and the checks and balances of power written into that document. All of them regardless of which president appointed them are wrong. Besides since when does America have a king of anything (especially after MJ died).

All of you up-in-arms about the word "czar" should probably take a pill or something, they obviously aren't using the word to it's literal definition. It's just a catchy title.

Whether they actually do anything or not remains to be seen, I just think it's retarded to be freaking out about what they're called.

it's just semantics, but these people are appointed without senate conformation.

Czars can be useful at times to tackle specific issues. The failure of Drug Czars is more a function of failed drug policy then the ineffectivness of Czar's in general. Czars are also increasingly nessesary as Congress has transfered considerable power to the executive office, far too much for on man to effectivly wiled. This is why every president has more advisors then the last. Obama seems to have a Czar for everything, and there are a lot of specific problems which need addressing. But, in Jones' case it looks like Obama just giving one of his homies... I mean cronies a job.

What really kills me is the double standard. Jones showed up to Yale law school wearing a Black Panthers backpack and nobody batted an eye. He was a member of a American Communist movement and nobody cares. He spent several spells in jail, wherein he felt drawn to the prison anarchist movement an nobody is worried. Now this guy is somehow an expert on green jobs, and his past doesn't worry anyone?

Picture a white guy who had a KKK backpack, who was a registered NRA member and militia participant being tapped for a Czar job by Bush... could you imagine the outrage from main stream media? Why does Jones get a pass?

Well we have to remember that every single event in American history before the election of Barrack Obama was simply a mistake. A huge blemish on the face of this earth. Something we must all be ashamed of for the rest of our days. Now that Obama has acceded to the throne, picked up the Kennedy torch and so forth. We can be led to a new higher plain of existence.

Now we all know the last 8 years were literally the most perfect years in all of humanity's history and Obama sucks Satans cock on an hourly basis and loves to eat children. His every thought is a calculated move to destroy civilization to bring about ultimate suffering on Earth.

Who is saying that? Bush had some gigantic fuck ups all through his presidency. No one will doubt that. But on the flip side he did some good in some areas. Now when Obama does something well I will give him props. But when you surround yourself with self avowed communists and eugenics advocates chances are you are not all that level headed.

I personally and sick and tired of the arguments involving the past, but let me ask this. Everyone was pissing their pants with rage over Cheney over Halliburton/KBR right? Remember just the sheer rage and hatred for someone that used to be a CEO. Remember how everyone wanted all of these investigations launched and such. Where the fuck are these people now? Obama ran on the whole no lobbyists in my administration, and what did he do? Higher lobbyists. Remember how all of these bank CEO's and such are the scum of the Earth? Then what the fuck are Goldman Sachs execs doing in the White House?

I am just sit and fucking tired of all of the partisan bullshit in this country. Yes, Bush fucked us a lot of ways, but so did Clinton, Bush I, Carter, Regan, Lincoln, Washington, FDR, Truman, Wilson on and on and on and on. Well guess what kids, that shit is all a complete and utter non issue. We play the hand we are dealt. Nothing more, nothing less. The DNC and RNC fucking stoke the fire when it comes to partisan fighting. Do you know why? So people sit around and piss all over each other instead of asking why in the hell a Commie and a dude that advocates sterilization are doing talking to the President. Remember when Obama said, 'You want to know my policy? Well look at who I surround myself with'. Well if we are to take the Commander and Chief at his word then I am scared absolutely shitless. Or was this just another political lie? I mean, we have two options. Either Obama is a complete douche politicton that lied his ass all the way into office or he is an advocate for the fall of capitalism, and forced sterilization to prevent a population bomb. Either way, how in the hell can anyone be happy with what he has done thus far? This whole administration has been emergency after emergency. Yes, Bush did not handle business well, but if we want to play that game then lets go back to Clinton and examine the ball that he got rolling.

The American people just need to wake the hell up and question absoultly everything. You would think that after the 'fucking' that Bush gave everyone that everyone would be on their toes. But it isnt about Americans greatness. It is about the fucking D and R next to someones name. Most identify so strongly with a stupid fucking letting next to their name they do not see the wolf at the doorway. They threw the wool off a long time ago because we are so busy to trying to kill and hump each other that they get to feed as they see fit. We are the ones to blame for this shithole of a situation. We have elected the same retards year after year, we have breed an entire generation of selfish, self righteous assholes who are only worried about the gel in their hair and how fucking tight their shirt is.

We need to sit down and have an honest debate on all of these issues. I think I would be better off waiting to see oxygen turn into gold wouldn't I? Because to some this whole post will seem like a far right wack job ranting. Some will think it was written by a Bush lover. And some wont care. And they would all be wrong, the only thing that I want is this country to succeed. For the government to leave us the fuck alone and let us go on about our lives. This country was not created for a cradle to the grave society, it was founded to allow us all to live our lives how we see fit. But some where along the way the government told us we where to stupid to grow our own food, build our own house and teach our own kids. And the only thing worse then them telling us this, is that we actually believed their lying asses.

Note:
This post is not directed towards anyone in general. It simply reflects my frustration with a large portion of the American people.

Frikking :werd:

From George Washington's Presidential farewell address:

George Washington said:
...Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.

This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.

Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight), the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.

It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.

There is an opinion that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the government and serve to keep alive the spirit of liberty. This within certain limits is probably true; and in governments of a monarchical cast, patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose. And there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.

Sounds familiar doesn't it?

Another paragraph from George Washington's farewell speech I thought was relevant:

George Washington said:
As a very important source of strength and security, cherish public credit. One method of preserving it is to use it as sparingly as possible, avoiding occasions of expense by cultivating peace, but remembering also that timely disbursements to prepare for danger frequently prevent much greater disbursements to repel it, avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt, not only by shunning occasions of expense, but by vigorous exertion in time of peace to discharge the debts which unavoidable wars may have occasioned, not ungenerously throwing upon posterity the burden which we ourselves ought to bear. The execution of these maxims belongs to your representatives, but it is necessary that public opinion should co-operate. To facilitate to them the performance of their duty, it is essential that you should practically bear in mind that towards the payment of debts there must be revenue; that to have revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised which are not more or less inconvenient and unpleasant; that the intrinsic embarrassment, inseparable from the selection of the proper objects (which is always a choice of difficulties), ought to be a decisive motive for a candid construction of the conduct of the government in making it, and for a spirit of acquiescence in the measures for obtaining revenue, which the public exigencies may at any time dictate.

It is really to bad that our children have no idea who our founding fathers are/where. People are under some impression that the past is worthless, that we need to change everything for the sake of change. And now, we have past and present officials speaking to our children telling them that they need to tell their parents how things should be. That what they learned in the past from their parents and grandparents is all wrong now. There are some things in life that are timeless. But for some reason the progressive movement wants to dash all of that in favor of change for the sake of itself.

The guy called republicans "assholes" and said that the government was involved in the 9/11 attacks...

It seems someone who found the truth more important than policies or platforms was mistakenly put in a position of power.

Those that speak unpopular truth too loudly will soon be squelched.
