WTF??? I thought the idea was that the penny would be discontinued?

I don't remember where I read it, but there was an article on the net about it..

yeah, i've seen those,
they are trying to get people interested in the penny again.

i believe this is a last stretch try, it will be discontinued on a matter of years.

question is: when they do get rid of the penny, will they allow people to change them in for higher value currency, or will they just suddenly be worthless?

Pennies are the floppy drives of the monetary world... No one uses them, but every motherboard on the market has one of those stupid connectors to support it. :p

They'll be around as long as we have hard currency. :(

Nice!

But seriously... if the penny gets canned, then that's only going to give the government more reasons to raise taxes, and for vendors to charge more.

I see them day in and day out.

Then again I work with money.

I don't remember the last time I cared to look at a penny. Ill have to keep an eye out now.

I haven't seen any yet. I always check my change out, you never know when you get something really old. Its even better when it is a penny because they get taken out of circulation really fast.

If our currency continues to lose value, I'm sure they'll faze it out and we'll have tenth of a dollar instead. After that, just plain on dollars and no more decimals.

Or we end up with the 100 billion dollar bill.

Obama should put his face on the penny. That way he can get more face-time with his die-hard constituents.

i doubt we'll ever see the end of the penny. people will feel ripped off if an order comes to 9.17 and they have to pay 9.20 for it.

Still don't think it'd work, but the argument against the penny is that there'd be no second decimal in any transaction in the first place. The cost would be $9.2 to begin with.

Yea, but you gotta think. If that were to happen. How would they be able to give you that 3 cents they owe you? Pennies will never be obsolete. All those people shoving penny's in those big ol' water jug every day saving up for their kids college would riot, i'm certain of it. I dont even think national guards can handle riots that are over money.

They'll take the penny out of circulation as soon as they start making 500 dollar bills again and they lower the drinking age.

Uhm. Guys.

The problem is that sales taxes aren't 10% across the board. Around here sales tax is 6.5%. Try to convince people that 10% sales tax is "better"............

Shouldn't the title read "Have you seen the new pennies yet?" ?

Pennies are hilarious. The fact that it costs more to produce than it's monetary value is only trumped in ridiculousness by the fact that fiat currency holds no real value whatsoever.
