game console failure rate

I am on the my third 360. But all of that aside, I still choose the 360 over the others. The Wii will find a home once my boy gets a little older.

Add to the fact what MS did once things got really bad. Extended warranty, two way shipping + packaging and a very fast turn around. So really, it was not really a huge deal.

The fact that they've optimized and streamlined their return/exchange process tells you right there that they've got alot of returns/exchanges.

You also have to take into account that the lifetime 360 sales are much higher than the PS3. I don't consider the Wii to be on the same playing field, it's processing capability is much lower and it isn't capable of high-def, much lower probability of failure in less complicated systems. The fact of the matter is that Microsoft could have engineered the hardware better, but in the end the system would have debuted at a higher price, like the PS3 did.

Oddly, nobody I know has ever had reliability problems with a game console. I did have to replace my launch-day PS2 after about 2 years of very frequent use, but they were known to have drive issues anyway. None of the other consoles I have owned have had any problems. No RROD 360s, no failed PS2s, nothing.

Yea I'll stick with my 360 until GT5 fully comes out. Even then I'll probably only have the one game for it and use it as a Blue Ray player. I never had a problem with my early PS2. All I had to do was seperate the case and clean it every once in a while.

From what I understand the wii purposely went sans HD capability to avoid paying the fees for the rights to use that technology.

i've never had my snes, n64, xbox, or 360 break on me. Guess I'm lucky

PS2: 100%

Seriously, they just die. I'm on my 5th one.
I went through 2 until I got an 360. Of course, the first one took a fall from about five feet onto one foot, mine.

360 has gotten the RROD twice but we fixed it at home both times.

I have a Wii too. I like the concept and can download the old NES games. I haven't yet, but that was my game plan when I got it.

N64 is crazy reliable though. I love that thing.

we have all 3 and i think 360 is the best. despite the fact the amongst the household we are on #5!!!! as for ps3, dvd clarity is enough for me so the blu-ray thing is not a big deal, however my roommate likes the wireless internet feature-i have a computer so idc bout that either. gt5 should be sick, but hows it mash against forza3, which may prove to be same as all the rest which were light years better than their gt rivals.(motor swaps, jdm body bits, wheel selection, nearly unlimited modding for anything, online interface, etc.....) imo, wii is only fun at 4am after the bar with all my drunk friends playing bowling and such. not much solo replay value. just my op;)

yet another study that isn't very clear.

So a company that does warranty work for gamestop only has 23.7% failure rate with the Xbox360 that were bought with the warranty program. what about the people who sent their xbox 360 directly to MS and the other 70-80-90% of people who said F buying an extended warranty?

I have zero doubt in my mind the xbox 360 has closer to a 60% failure rate.

My 5th one is running strong *knocks on wood*

Mine is still good. And I bought it off my friend who got it on release date.

Hmmm... i think one of the biggest things that go out on PS3s are the power supplies, sadly SONY makes ya pay for a portion of it, can't remember if it is repair or shipping, oh wells... i made my 60gb into a 500gb... ftw!

I bought my PS2 in 1998 and it still works. lol

Too bad it came out in 2000. ^^/

I have pretty much everything from Atari 2600/Intellevision to PS3 (minus X360.. havn't had the extra to plunk down on one of those pos yet). Only one PSX broke. Had to do the upside down trick.. cheap drives. Even my Sega CD and Turbografix 16/PC Engine still play the discs well... though I can't say thay have had even close to the play time as the PSX/PS2.

Well whatever then I bought it in 2000, fact is its still fairly old for a gaming system and it still works.

i'm on my 3rd xbox 360. first one i bought used off of eBay a few years ago. that lasted for like a year i wanna say till i encountered the RROD. i went through the whole process and 4 weeks later i finally received my new/reman 360. that worked for awhile and then, it too, failed.

after putting up with one failure and waiting for 4 weeks, i decided i wasn't going to do that again. i went and picked up a brand new 360 and the next day returned my broken one in the box. either way i go about it, the broken unit will get back to MS, but doing it this way cuts my down time drastically lol
