...has a job!
I was recently laid off (two months after I fucking get married!) and am looking for work in the upper New England area. I am four credits short of an MBA and would prefer to work in a professional environment. If anyone has any connections or works at a place or knows of a place that is hiring. It's a big world. Just throwing it out there. Anyway, missed all you guys.

Sucks..what are you experienced in?

Sorry to hear that man. I am clear on the other side of this contenant so I probably wouldn't be much help.

I am experienced at being a full-time student. Lolz, seriously though. My last job was with a mortgage servicer and I grew up working in land development with my father so real estate seems like a natural segue...

The problem at hand is that I have spent a disproportionate amount of time in school. I know a lot but have had little chance to apply any of it. So, despite my near Master's status, I feel like I may be destined for entry level no matter where I go. I love and exceed at finance and strategic planning. I also write conceptuals and proposals frequently as I am always developing some absurd business plan, either for personal or scholastic pursuits. I am experienced in nothing and capable of anything.

Alas, I am currently packing to make the 12 hour drive from middle America back up to the promised land. I hope I find a job in NH. I hate Pittsburgh and this whole part of the country.

That's exactly why I decided to just go to work for now and put off the MBA until later, so that I can bring both the degree and a resume with some experience on it to the table and hopefully actually get paid what I'm worth. Also, the thought of having an employer help pay for the MBA is appealing as well.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your troubles man. Keep your head up. Something will pop up. Don't be afraid to take something that might be a little below you just to make end's meat for now. I'd rather my resume say that I've been working at a hardware store for the past few months then to just have a big ass gap on it...

seek out your mba alumni group. hit the school and networking events. look online for mba jobs and internships. you should be able to find a job fairly easy if you are reasonable with your expectations.

That is another problem. What am I to expect? I have too much education and not enough work experience. I have the education of the executive team with the work experience of the mail room. I hate myself for digging such a disgusting hole.

well, you haven't graduated yet. you are in a good situation. get in internship TODAY!!! get a new job TODAY!!!

you have little work experience. thats ok though. what is your mba focus in? where are you getting it from? if you apply for jobs, you should look for something between senior undergrad and fresh mba. something like a senior analyst isn't out of the question. salary should range from $50-$70 if you are looking in the right area.

worst case scenario, bit the bullet and take something you are overqualified for and get an entry level position at a company you would like to work for. you would be a good candidate for quick promotion if you prove your worth.

I agree. It's just a matter of finding it. I have a lot of good leads and resumes with cover letters out to about 15 places alone within the last three days. I got a call back from Stonyfield Farm. My cousin had referred me. Apparently you needed to have three to five years of marketing experience for the position I applied for. I was told my resume would stay on file and if anything came up I would get a call back...which will probably never happen.

Oh well fuck it. I'll give it a few weeks and if things don't pan out I'll go hit all the car dealerships. I could sell Hondas or Toyotas...

don't waste your degree. just find something that you are interested in. be willing to move. look at the corporate websites. dont' waste your time looking at careerbuilder, etc.

also, hit your networking events. go to the school today and find the next alumni meeting. wear a suit and go network. your best odds of finding a job are through networks. hit up linkedin.com. if you don't have anything else going on, you need to be proactive.

the quality and speed in which you get a job is 100% on you. emailing resumes isn't going to work. you are going to have to make it happen yourself. there are a LOT of jobs out there, you just have to be willing to accept them. pm me if you need anything.

I know. I email resumes as a first step but I have made several personal visits and I am doing everything within my power to network etc. I am making phone calls, showing up in HR offices, and generally being as pushy as possible. I have called on a lot of old friends and family. My brother's fiancee's father is the vice principal at a large high school here in NH and has already forwarded my resume to the dean of faculty and HR. Apparently there is something there that I am qualified for.

i'm here to help. i've been through it all man. good and bad. go on www.indeed.com hit the corporate websites and get in front of people. alumni groups are a goldmine. so are school facilities. they can get you into a paid mba internship.

My office is there, they are one of my clients :D

Are you an IT contractor? I sent a nice cover letter and resume over. That is the kind of free form environment I am looking for. Do you feel like it would be a great place to work?

i am a consultant.

its an OK place to work. then again i am not involved in interoffice politics.

So just to update, I have received some response to my inquiries. Some has been positive. I don't have any interviews yet but I have only really been looking hard for two days. Now the apartment complex wants us to pay for October as well as the $1600 early termination fee, which is money I don't have up front now. I offered to pay it incrementally and they said they would find out if I can. The alternative is being taken to court and destroying my credit. I feel like I am in so deep. It all happened so fast.
