Kids these days...
I just finished my b18a1 swap into my 90 hatch, and was wondering if my gears are shorter than everyone elses. When I had my d-series, I could drive at freeway speeds in 5th gear (60-65 mph) and stay right around 3000 to 3200 rpms. With this swap in, going 58 mph, I am revving to 3600, and if I try to drive with the flow of traffic at 65ish mph, I am driving at 4000 or so rpms. Is this normal for these motors? Or are my gears just shorter than most b-series transmissions?

I am also throwing a code 9....#1 cylinder position. Could this have anything to do with it? Also, does anyone know how to fix code 9? Thanks.

The gearing is shorter on your B-Series Trans, what trans are you using? A1, S1, J1, Y1, YS1? The A1 (90-91 LS trans) should have pretty long gears so if that is what you have you may want to check you clutch as it may be slipping. If you have a B16A trans (S1, JDM YS1, J1) this is normal. Either way though the transmission will not effect your code9, you most likely need to pick up a new distributor.

Not sure what trans I am using...but I suspect you are right. That is what it sounds like anyways. I am going to have to look into getting a longer geared trans. The short gears works great for power, but I am looking to save a bit of money on gas. Im burning through my tank in just a couple of days. Its like I am only getting ~15 mpg. It sucks. Might as well be driving a big block v8 around.

You think that the code 9 is caused by my distributor? I did tear mine apart and re-build it for my swap. Maybe I didnt do it right. Thanks for the help.

Look on the trans by the cable bracket, on a long flat spot. There should be a metalic gold tape with black alpha numeric coding.. Copy it down and post it here. If there isn't, it may have been degraged or blown off.
