Thought it would benefit people to see what types of gas people use? Brands? Gas Mileage? Just something to question since were always trying to save gas. One reason I bought the Honda.

I use Shell Premium, sometimes Chevron. Every other fill, I'll put octane booster in it to keep it clean.

damn even the hf back in the day barely got those numbers
 
Yeah, I admit. I had to do the calculations a few times. But on my road trip, that's what it came out to. haha Has to be a combo of the new spark plugs/ wires, new fuel filter, aerodynamics. In the city its horrible, Who knew?
 
So according to someone who has corrected me on how large the gas tank is on my car (11.8), I only get 47MPG. Damn, thought I could break the 50 mark.
 
Fill up just until it auto stops itself. Drive until you need it filled up and again fill it just until it stops pumping. Divide your trip by how much you put in. Just going by what the cars tank holds only works if you are entirely empty. You most likely used less than 11.8 gallons and maybe hit closer to the 50mpg mark.

If you take the time to read a lot of the regulations in there, you'll notice that the additives and quality of fuel put in the tanks at your local gas station are VERY strictly regulated. So much so that you're only going to notice about 1% difference between fuel from different companies. The commercials the shell and the other oil companies put out about their detergents being better for your engine is kind of a half truth. Yes, the detergent they add can benefit your engine. Is it better than the other guys? Maybe yes, but by a margin so low that it really doesn't matter. Those comparisons they do with engine components are usually vs detergent free gasoline. That's why the results appear so dramatic.

Please note that the octane booster doesn't hurt either and can actually be good for helping with the moisture that can build up in your gas tank, especially if you have an older car. Just to clarify that the octane booster wont get rid of the moisture, but it lessens the effect on the internals of your engine.

Yeah I had an idea that the question, "Is this fuel better than the other guys' across town?" is really just preference to me.
 
same here, shell V-power 30-36 mpg @ 70-80 in a 95 teggy with b16/LS tranny slight engine mods and tuned with 310cc injectors.

You use 310cc injectors? I was wondering what a nice step up from stock would be without going insane with 600cc injectors. Have they worked alright for you? Do you have any other fuel related mods?
 
Here in Memphis,(TN) they don't regulate the fuels whereas Mississippi does.
Any tanker can 'pull up' at Presidents Island (port) and pump to whomever..
Another thing, I've seen tons of 02 sensors go bad around here because of 'them' selling crap gas for premium price. In addition, Octane booster usually leaves a rust colored build-up on the electrode, which if it builds up enough along with other contaminants can short it out.

Anywho, I'm getting 38@70 w/city mph in a pretty much stock 90 civ. I wonder how much it will go down when I do the TPI conversion??
A local friend was getting 61mpg with air on in his 90 crx HF (for sale too!!)

i use whatever 93 octane is cheapest at the time. as far as gas mileage, i dont really care. its not good though, less than 20 around town with the built and blown b20vtec.
 
in nj... 93 octane 2001 honda s2000 everything done minus some boost lol... I average 18mpg but I normally drive 5-15 miles a day and its all stop go and curvy roads ;)
 
93, mostly from BP since it's in my neighborhood.

C350 gets around 24 on avg

350Z gets maybe 25-30 MPG if I'm already up to speed just rolling.
I figure around 18-22 if there's some stop and goes.
Around 5mpg maybe less if under load. A short trip to a local place can easily eat a 1/4 tank of gas.

Yeah that sucks...literally. We don't have 93 octane here in Oregon. We have up to 91, but some people say they have found 93, but its really crap gas. At my local Chevron, you can buy race gas in 10 gallon tanks. haha Could not believe it.
 
I run 93 pump gas 4.5 Gallons and put in 4.5 of 102... I see about 46mph with my D15B at 75 mph on the freeway... lmao...with Shell 87 I get 438 miles to a tank... tanks only 9.002 gallons
 
I remember reading a story in some car mag that stated the higher octane makes the flame burn slower. I wonder if that was correct?

Kinda make sense in a way that the crank pin has already past TDC and since it's still burning, it's still giving force to the rod on the way down the other side.

it has a higher flash point meaning it takes more compression and a hotter spark to make it burn.

In a high compression engine 87 octane can burn just with the compression and the heat of the block.

The flame may burn slower, but that is likely a by product of the fact that it takes more energy to burn.
 
I got 32-33 highway in my jrsc gsr hatch running 93 octane BP gas. Around town I was boost happy and only got about 15. My current type r hatch only gets about 26mpg combined running 93 octane BP.
