ok guys im new here and just curious about a swap, i'll be the first to admit im not a honda guy im into neons so dont flame to bad please. My buddy and i race on a 1/4 mile dirt oval track, my neon does great very fast but my buddy has his 92 integra which is a rocket off the start and handles like its on rails but halfway down straights the rev limiter kicks in and he has to shift into third and third gear is too much for the track and the car is doggy in third, his integra has a 5speed with a 1.8 dohc. now my question is a prelude came to track and cleaned house except for my neon it was great race but his gearing seemed to be better for the track than my buds integra, is there any way we could swap in a prelude tranny into his car? thanks for the help guys.

A prelude tranny won't work. What you want is a b16 transmission or a gsr transmission. Being a 92, he has a cable trans, so the newer hydo ones will not work without a conversion. Either find an imported b16 trans, or you can get a 92-93 gsr trans. These have the same gearing as the b16 I believe. Swap one of these in, and it will be much quicker.

ty so much we are goin to junkyard tomorrow to start looking, is there anyway we could swap ring gears to acheive the gsr ratio or is not possible with the honda's?

the stock fd ratio is 4.266 for your trans. The gsr and b16 trannies are only 4.4. Most of the benefit is made up in the actual gearing. There are much more aggressive final drives you can buy from the aftermarket.

listen to this guy ^

the b16a or GSR cable trans is what you are looking for. S1, YS1, J1, and there may be more.

could you just run a shorter tire and run the car in 3rd. or a taller tire and run 2nd. thats what the local roundy round guys around me do as rules dont permit changing the trans

we tried tire size but the rev limter just kicks in way too early, my neon and his integra are the only 2 different cars out there, we are surrounded by 30 probes and i just want my bud to start whoopin some probe ass, i hate fords. well off to couple junkyards to see what we can find thnks guys.

Yeah, you really do need to start winning vs probes. So I guess we now know all those cars are good for is oval dirt racing, before I thought it was nothing accept for a camp fire.

i race a 91 integra and had a gearing problem on a 3/8 mile track,i went to 235-60-15 in 2nd gear and it turns about 7k,you get the stagger and weight right in that teg and it will eat a probe

Let me Do a little looking at the trans specs. I also race dirt I use D series I an stuck to single cams by Rules. I run an SI tranny with HF first and second and its JUST RIGHT!!!!! Swaping gears inside the trans is the way to do! Nobody is the wiser!

Ok Heres My take I am an old school racer so I know FD #s using a 1:1 Trans So Knowing the rpm ranges you want to run your trans mission is a Bitch to get it right. D series ya can do it with stock parts.
for a quarter mile I would say I like about 5.83:1

Right now your Final ratio is 2nd= 6.166:1 3rd= 5.53:1

to get you close your only choice is after market Ring and pinion! May be pricey???

so to run 2nd gear you need to order a 3.93 R&P
To run 3rd gear you would need 4.56 R&P

The Sweet part that is if there was a 4.56 available that would give you a 5.48:1 in 4th gear! Perfect for a 1/2 Mile!

Thats my take on it Should get ya into the perfect area to run smaller tires on the 1/4 mile and taller tires on the 3/8 and never shift !

if you're in an LS (b18a) now, it's the longest tranny available.
Moving to a b16a (jdm only, likely won't find this in a junkyard) or b17a (rare, won't find this at a junkyard either probably), you'll obtain shorter gearing, which will require a 3rd gear shift, but it won't be as doggy.
that's about it for your cable options.

i ran a 91 crx si before the teg and i also ran 15'' on it in 2nd gear, might have been the weight diff. or the hp but i didn't find a lot of differance in the 2

1990 Integra 3rd gear to high

i race a 1990 integra 1.8 L on a 3/8 mile dirt track, i have a bit of gear problem 2nd is to low 1.85 3rd bit high 1.25 final drive is 4.40 i found in 1992 the GSR 1.7L had a 3rd gear 1.45 with a 4.40 final drive i think that would work great im not sure if that trans. would fit or not and i think it may be really hard to find i would really like to just change my 3rd gear set but i dont think there are such parts to do so if anybody has any input i would be greatful

i also run a 3/8 mile track with med backing and have no trouble with the 235-60 -15,i think my wheels came of a saturn or vw i can't remember but the most i have turned on a fast night is 7200,and this is not a back of the pack car i own 2 track records with this setup
