I live in the middle of nowhere, a place where I see more tractors on the road than cars. Yet somehow after changing my alternator out with one from an old D15 and taking one of my friends for a joy ride in my Rex, We stumbled upon two teenage asians and a old ass white guy with the hood up, on the side of the road with an
EVO!! It had the normal 4G63 and I asked them if they needed any help and they told me the hot pipe kept popping off and they were using some skinny clamps. I had some old turbo parts laying around the house about a block away so I ran and got them a new rubber fitting and two larger clamps. I was curious if it had been modified at all and they said it was a stock piece of shit and I asked how much boost... 25-30lbs is what they said they were running? Isn't that a little much for a stock evo or am I wrong? I would think with that much the pipe would have constantly been popping off or they could have detonated something. Anyone know how much boost a stock evo can take or should be at?

pretty sure stock evo runs 23psi. with a mbc, the range the said is certainly feasable.

it's a dinky ass turbo. my genesis runs up to 14psi stock with random low end spikes (ie, 5th gear at 30 mph) to 18psi and its still slow lol

Crazy, I wonder if they were just running it lean at 30psi or if they had anything to manage the fuel like a FMU or something. I did not even think about a manual boost controller. I would think they would be pushing around 350hp with that much!? I have a friend considering a 4g63 swap into a Del Sol, what do you think? I don't know if I want to see him attempt it and fail if it will cost him too much or be too much of a pain to install. I have seen a few of the swaps into crx's I think?

you don't need to hack the fuel system on a car already designed for boost like using an fmu. the computer is already capable of reading boost and has maps beyond its stock rpm band and boost ranges. there's simple software out there to reflash evos.
EcuFlash - OpenECU

oh, and putting a 4g63 in a civic/etc is just retarded and a pain in the ass.
its not orginal (been done 100s of times)
its all custom wiring and mouting
it will cost you a ton of money just to get it to turn on and not fall out of the engine bay
hell, its not even that good of a motor

just throw a bin it and don't be retarded

That's what I figured you would say. I am a machinist but don't feel like trying to make mounts for him and then getting blamed if it falls apart. Maybe I can change his mind because money would be the biggest issue.

i would simply tell him you won't help him :) that should change his mind

Yeah the max is around 22-23psi. My cousin's Evo 9(MR) actually runs less than that stock (IIRC, max is about 21psi and it tapers down to about 16-17psi towards redline), but with an aftermarket boost controller it'll hit 23psi and spike to about 25psi.

Stock, fuel is somewhat an issue though. He's pretty close if not already maxing out the injectors just by using the boost controller set at 19-21psi. Luckily, Evo's run a little rich from the factory.

fukk those evo they suk anyways......should of told him , "should of bought urself a Honda"...lol..j/k

Can you say crank walk

That is why I was wondering about a Fuel management Unit but I guess they would just need to up the injectors. I've never seen that image before. Funny stuff ^_^

WHy does everyone want their civic to wind up to 10k? Buy a used sportsbike.

First of all. Everything that RiceRacerRex has said is a lie. Hes not a machinist. He can barely work on his own CRX. I do all the work on his car. And I was driving it when we saw the evo. He doesnt have any turbo parts. He lives with me. He sleeps on my couch. We came back to the house and we did find a clamp and some rubber pieces but they couldnt use them. They had just bought the evo and they found the right clamp in the trunk. and I am still going to do the dsm swap in the del sol. Crank walk wasnt a problem with the first gen. Only the second gen. Like I said he is a lier and I hope he reads this. He really pissed me off with what he said about me.
Quoted for posterity and hilarity. :D

that "dinky ass" turbo your talking about can make 350awhp-400whp(if it had the 10.5 hotside) with meth and high boost, around 27-28psi. It's a bad *ss turbo and full spool by 3k rpm

with the small 9.8 h.side and no meth I ran a 12.40 with basic bolt-ons. Evo's are awesome cars when modded right and when they don't break! haha If you can afford it, imho I thinks its the best DD for performance and comfort. The weak point in Evo/4wd Dsm's is the drivetrain. But when built (sheptrans.com) and done right , they can be made into some quick street cars.

so to answer RICERACEREX: evo's come from the factory at 18psi and taper to 15ishpsi. With a simple mbc they can be set to run 20-22psi throughout the powerband, no tapering what so ever. there are a few fuel management options, ecuflash being the cheapest and most popular.

as one of my sigs say....... I LIKE MY EVO BUT I <3 MY HONDA ;)
