sup i building a straight Ls turbo this winter and wanna kno wat u guys think i should do. steps and any advise would help out alot. i want it to be a daily driver car and reliable, willing to spend the money but in a long period of time ...lol...im broke but tax time is around the corner so let me kno ......thanks

You're already o the right track for reliability- simplicity. Read around the site a little. There's a ton of information on how to make a good solid reliable LS turbo.

For cheap and reliable:

check all engine parts for cracks/damage
get good forged pistons/rods
balance EVERYTHING
basic engine rebuild with all ARP fasteners
add boost (kit or DIY)

Done. You could go anywhere from 250whp to 400whp+ depending on what kind of power curve you want and how good your tuning is.

As someone who has built an LS turbo before, I advise you to focus on getting air to the engine as well if you want to make any power.

Stock cams, valvetrain, etc will probably hold you back on the dyno. I just swapped out my intake manifold because my car basically hit a wall at 320whp. Stock LS stuff just doesn't flow well.

Other than that, it's an awesome engine to turbocharge. Keep the compression around stock, and you'll enjoy decent power out of boost, and great power in boost.

aight this is wat i have already....NOTHING!.....hehe....but some basic bolt ons...i got a Skunk2 I.M, MSD setup, Hondata s300( i like it!), most turbo parts like piping, b.o.v, feed and return line, intercooler,AEM fuel rail, Innovative mounts & waterpump(LS)....need engine internals like forge piston and rods, piston rings of course, acl race bearings, blokkguard, head gasket, timing belt (LS), and for head work i would need cams, cam gears, titanium valve springs and retainer, new valves, valve guide, valve seal, and maybe all the gasket, so am i missing anything?.....come on guys let me kno im a bit confused but just wanna make sure im on the right trakk..like i said im lookin for a daily driver and reliable Ls turbo on my eg6...if i miss anything please let me kno, like wat i need or dont need ....thanks in advance

Sounds like you aren't on much of a budget, haha.

Your list is pretty spot on. The headwork is ESSENTIAL to getting the LS head capable of making some power. Keep in mind that even with decent head work, the LS will only flow as well as a stock DOHC VTEC head.

As far as gas mileage (since this will be a DD), I get ~26mpg in my Civic (LS-Turbo setup). A friend of mine with an EG hatch and an LS-VTEC setup gets the same if not slightly worse than I do, and the AFR's are very similar. The cars were also tuned by the same person.

LS or LS-VTEC, the choice is yours.

tell u the truth i want VTEC but i just want something thats a lil different then everybody else and wen i smoke those vtec then i can run my lips regardless if i spend more doe or not, lol....
so wat u guys think of my plan that was stated on my earlier post......just want some oppinion so i can make sure im building this shit rite the first time and replace the parts that needed to be changed.....

so if i get the works done for the Ls head at the shop and replace every internal parts wit titanium and performance cams and gears and all and it will only flow the same as a stokk vtec head???? u serious???? making me think twice now, let me kno.........and i am on a budget i got 2 kids, one 2 year old and a 4 month old baby.....and im 23 ......lol... hey im busy but still trying to get my build started, no garage and winter, not a good combo....

Wow, if you have all of that going on you might want to re-consider an all out build then.

Bottom line the cheapest, most cost effective route is going to be LS-VTEC. The money you spend in valvetrain and headwork to get an LS to flow just like a stock VTEC head is 1k+ depending on who you know. VTEC head will run you 250-600 depending on the condition and completeness of the head. IMO, for your situation LS-VTEC would be best.

I, on the other hand, will continue to try and make it with my LS head :p

ur rite but i still want straight Ls just the fact that i can smoke a vtec and run my lips about it.......lol..... so maybe this winter project goin to be 2 winter project......see wat happens still thinking

Ya wanna smoke some VTEC???

yea only just because everybody be sayin go vtec yo and ls suks and all....non vtec baby....i have ls turbo stock internals and smoke the shit out of gsr, b16 and the mugen SI so wat happen if i fully build it and hopefully build it rite the first time, and dat was at 6 psi on my hatch so fully built wit higher boost...:D:D shit must be fast

sup i just remove some parts to get the motor ready for removal and i notice on the turbo theres oil in the middle on the exhaust side......wats dat mean the turbo have a bad seal or something?..could this be the cause of my blue smoke?// come on guys i need help.........aint this wat the site is for

It is more than likely a bad turbo seal. What kind of turbo are you running, and are you using an oil restrictor on the oil feed line?

wat oil restictor????? i dont kno nothing about a oil restrictor...where does it goes? wat does it look like?.....im running a JDM t3/t4 turbo(cheap shit) but yea let me kno wats sup wit the restrictor shit

It should be on the turbo itself where the oil line comes in.

The seals inside the turbo can't handle 60 psi of oil pressure (typical of a Honda in higher RPM's) so you put a restrictor in there to keep the pressure to a level that the turbo can handle.

If you don't have one, the seals will blow out and you will leak oil into the turbo housing(s).

Well, I'd have to see the turbo and the restrictor used to be able to see if that was the problem.

There are lots of great sites. I usually use eBay and buy the name brand stuff at cheaper prices.

hehehe dats wat im doin exept this cheap turbo just for now untill i get a garret or turbonetics turbo and it's going to be from ebay...lol......hey its cheaper then other site and same part.........

i'll take a pix of the turbo wen i get a chance, my car and the turbo( still on the car) is at my girl's mom's crib so wen i get a chance i'll post it hopefully u can confirm the problem......

btw thanx for the help guys

I thought that there was someone here that was selling a p/p ls head not too long ago.
Did you ever look into "Gude Performance"??
They offer kits that have cams, head, ECU if I remember right.
I've never delt with them personally but worth a look.
