pulling an engine

I was wondering if with these engines if it's easier to pull just the engine or pull the engine and tranny as one unit. I ask because I know someone with a DOHC ZC for real cheap and pretty low miles and seeing that I wouldn't need different...really anything, if it's easier to just pull the engine.

Oh on a side note, they were saying the best combo would be to use an integra ECU because they have more aggressive fuel and timing maps, would I just be able to use a chipped pm6 with a pr4 map or what?

Way easier to pull them both at the same time.

The ZC ecu (pm7) is best but will have a speed cut off, Something like 112mph.. followed by the 88-89 integra ecu (pg6) will run it a little rich.
 
alright thanks, just wanted to make sure before I get half way threw and go what the hell did I do lol. Dumb question but I've heard that getting the axles out is pretty hard, do you have any tips? same for the motor mounts
 
There is a snap ring on the axle shaft inside the transmission that needs to be popped lose. That is all that holds the axle in the transmission. Just pry on it from both sides with small pry bars or large screw drivers. Be careful not to jam the screw driver into the seal, and pry away from the transmission, not toward it. The best technique I've found is to get one large screw driver on each side, between the axle and transmission, and give it a good yank to pop the ring loose.

I would avoid the larger pry bars for fear of cracking the transmission case.. But that is just me, it isn't a common problem or anything.

alright, what do you mean by "pry away from the transmission not towards it" like when I have the screw drivers in there like try to pry them apart, like away from each other or something else?
 
axles are easy as pie.. just bust the 19mm bolt off the ball joint, pop it loose with ball joint separator, then pull the hole hub assembly out and the axle should pop right out...
 
NO!!! do not use a ball joint seperator.. that just a last resort. that can f**k them up. i just did this job yesterday. ok. you have to take the nuts off of the upper control arm and the outter tierod end. then you take a hammer and hit the hub right under the ball joint to brrake it loose (do not hit the control arm or ball joints threaded area because you will mess up the threads) for the tie rod with a hammer, again hit the hub where the tie rod goes in. for the axels stick a flat head screw driver in the crack where the axels go in the tranny. pry the opposite dirrection of the tranny. sometimes you'll have to pry a lil harder than others. it will come out about an inch. then get something bigger (pry bar) to pry it out the rest of the way. when putting them back in DO NOT hammer or bash them back in. This could damage the axel.
