LS 5th in a B16 cable tranny

I'm new to hondas so forgive me if I have numbers etc. wrong?
Just bought this car

88' civic hatch
B18A Vtec
b16 tranny
+ a bunch more, suspension, intake stuff, bla bla bla


Can I run the taller 5th gear from a LS tranny in my B16 (I think it's called a B16)tranny, It revs at 4k when cruzing down the highway at 70-75. The case is cracked in mine from being low low. so I've got to tear down anyways, so I've bought a bad LS tranny (bad third) that I want to use the case from, I'd like to run the 5th gear from it as well. Will the 5th from the LS work (hopefully it fit's the main and countershafts, because if it doesn't I suspect the main and counter would'nt fit the LS case), but if it does fit, will 5th be excessively tall?

Yes, you can run the LS 5th gear. Tons of people are doing it

I always thought about this too..
everything just swaps in like normal? or does crazy shit have to be done in order to get it in..

Thank you for the reply. I don't see any issue with clearance. 3rd 4th and 5th come off the main shaft, were as 1st and 2nd are made to it. Just have to press off 5th (4th and 5th together, then seperate) I'll update the thread when I get it together (within the next month or so).

If someone reads this who has done the mod - what RPM did you end up with at 60mph. I don't know if all B16's have the same ring gear count, and I realize tire size makes a difference, but roughly?

Speaking of tire size, how big can I get away with on the 88 hatch thats low low. Max diameter and width? or if you don't know max diameter and width, how about tire size, I.E. 225/45/17?, 18's? - It's not that I really want to run a massive tire/rim combo, but the car has steelies and I'd like to find some rims on craigslist and I see tons of nice looking 17's and 18's, very few 15's and 16's. So what can I get away with to avoid rubbing and not have too tall of a 5th gear with this LS fifth?

18's are wayy to big for any honda. unless you want car looking like it should be at a dub show or something I wouldnt go over 16's..
