Well im posting this from my wifes computer because mine trashed right now. Last week I got a trojan, BHO.jew, from somewhere and it has taken over. I use ad-aware, avg free, and windows defender and none of them have been able to stop this thing. It has gotten to the point where it wont even let me access the internet, my task manager, or anything else. I can start up in safe mode and scan but it wont come up with anything and safe mode still wont let me online. I dont have a windows disk or anything like that so I cant just reload windows and since I dont have that reformatting my hard drive would not be the smart thing to do I dont think. Any advice you guys can give me to help clean up my comp would be great...until then im pretty much out of options besides using it for a paper weight.
 
PrevX is the best program i have ever used for that kinda shit....order it from your wifey's PC and install and be done with it...has live mode protection as well
 
I've never used PrevX but I like Avast. It's free(home edition), and when installing, it'll restart the computer and scan the whole harddrive before Windows is even started.

its a new OS, and if all you do is get online and look at porn and pay your bills its more than you need for $0
 
So let me get this right...its better than windows and FREE?

dl malware bytes and avg and you should be able to clean it up.
 
no you dont. don't spread fud, B. We use linux laptops for meetings and crap in this office and they are literally fresh CDs. Firefox is easy to find. The Applications menu is self explanitory. And if you want to install software there is an awesome app that installs all your software for you.

It's super easy. and hey, if it doesnt work for you, at least you can get on the interwebz until you get a new windows cd.

Well avg cant find it and I cant get into the web to dl any other kind of anti virus...im going to go play around in safe mode and see what I come up with before I go with linux. But im running out of options and having withdrawls from my pc...
 
The trojan wont let me open the task manager. Everytime I try to open something the trojan pops up a window saying its infected and to run the anti virus...which is part of the trojan. I will try that out in safe mode though. ** crosses fingers**
 
Well that did not work, going to try a system restore point and see what comes of it. Looks like I might have to take it to town and have someone who knows what they are doing fix it. But I will keep messing with it for today atleast.
 
I had a trojan like that. I used Malware bytes and Avast and it removed it completely while in safe mode. Also you may have to turn off the restore points to get the virus. I also read that you may have to put the malware bytes and avast on a usb drive and open it in safe mode on the infected computer.

I noticed that when I do try to do a system restore it fails...so I will try this way tonight. Should I turn off the restore points while in safe mode? Right now I have got to take a break from it and go to the landfill before the wife rips me a new bunghole.

Dont play like you dont agree with me. Ubuntu is getting to the point where it's idiot proof. I use it almost exclusively. And I guarantee i could put it on most relatively intelligent people's computers and they'll never have an issue, but they definitely wont utilize it the way i do.
