so, i've been having issues with my ipod sound levels.. whenever i play music, some songs play way loud, while others are so quite you can barely hear them.. is there a way to normalize the volume at all?

i have touch, if it matters

It may have to do with the 'sources' of your music..... Unless you buy everything from iTunes. Now, there may be a conversion program or something along those lines that will let you do a batch job and equalize them out.

On my iphone there is an option to make it so that it levels the sound across songs.

My Nano has this feature. Look for "Sound check", and turn it on. By default I believe it's turned off.

Edit: noticed I was a little late. Anyways, it gives you a description in iTunes.

awsome, thanks! hopefully i wont have to mess with the volume on my dock every time the song changes!

You can change the songs via iTunes.

Under Edit -> Preferences - > Playback -> Sound Check.

If you want a more technical solution, there is an app called mp3gain that will scan your files and normalize them all to a volume you specify.

As far as I know, Itunes doesn't change the volume level on the MP3 file itself, just normalizes it on the itunes front-end.

I should note that MP3gain is freeware, easily located via google.

Not sure how I did it, but I had the same problem, clicked around on iTunes, and now they all play at the same level. Before I could barely hear one, then the next would deafen me.
