B20 VTEC is fun for about 30K miles and even built bottoms spin a rod bearing.
H22 is much more work but makes that light car fly (only in straight lines lol)

my budget is trying to stay around 3 grand in that range...my goal is to have a fast street car all,motor...just prefer going all motor...and another goal would be to be able to take on a rsx type s...and to take on b20 vtecs

$3,000
You can put in a JDM H series VTEC, mount kit and do the basic maintenance stuff (timing belt, clutch, water pump, cap/rotor, plugs, etc) but I wouldn't expect to have money for any head work or such. Are you doing this yourself? The swap should get you in the 13's sleeper style but you would need to launch it just right b/c it'll be a bitch to get traction on street tires with that set up.

I would say do an ls swap with an lsd equipped transmission. Easy installation, and the easiest to build up once you save up more money. To fit an H series in an ef, you really have to hack up the engine bay.

I'd skip the F/H series giving the aforementioned reason, and stick with B-series.

My suggestion; LS block with a GSR head, ITR cams(or aftermarket), B16 pistons, and B16/B17 GSR transmission would be a nice "hot" setup. Spend whatever is left on tuning and you should be able to put down some decent numbers. If you have enough money left over; a nice intake manifold(like Skunk2 or Edelbrock)+RDX injectors would be a nice addition(if possible, get these before the tune).

Is that motor+transmission or just motor? If it's just motor, I'd pass. Many B16s are about as fast as semi-built D16s.

I'd go for it; and later on just swap the short block from a B18 or B20. The B16 transmission alone goes for about that much; so make sure it really is a B16 transmission! Also make sure it's a cable transmission unless you plan on converting to hydraulic clutch(more money/work).

you dont need to hack up the bay. just a bit of denting with a hammer.

the reason i say h22 type s is because its not to common. everyone has b series engines! an h22 would be different. imagine the power. 200hp stock with vtec.

I don't think being different is his concern. With everyone having a B-series, it just makes parts easier to come by and cheaper. Even now, there's not as much support for the H-series.

so then i should jump on that b16a...and can i make that faster then my 91 ef si which has a jdm b18c with a type R head???with me working with $3,000...

Yes!

Hell, you would already have the B16 pistons I suggested too! All would be in order would be new cams, B18 block, and tuning(which, given your budget, you have enough for and maybe some)!
