Ok here is a little background.
I found a 91 HF CRX with 108,000 miles with no rust for 700 bucks that was originally owned by an old lady. Some guy bought it from her in hope to do something with it but didn't. It had sat in old lady's garage for a while and when he picked it up oil was sludged in pan. He drove it home with sludgy oil. Engine was making light knock when I bought it from this guy.

Towed it home, later took off oil pan, cleaned out sludge, changed oil, quickly clogged filter, changed filter, later clogged another. SAT...

Went to school in PA to Wyotech. Wanted to use it as my project car for chassis fab. One time drove it back to school when I was at home for a weekend. Made it halfway and oil light came on. Luckily I had an extra filter with me so I spun off filter in a parking lot and spun a new one on. Even with original engine making scary noises, 2 people in car and loaded with supplies for living a few more weeks from parents I got 55 mpg the whole way LOL.

We had chassis scales at school so First step was to give it a weigh in.... Full interior, stock wheels/tires, spare tire, 3/4 tank of gas, and a brick in spare tire compartment. initial weight was 1975 lbs.

PLANS

Create a car that's primary purpose is to handle well
Major chassis modification
Make car stiff while keeping lightweight
BOOST!!!!
Make a one of a kind car.
NO RICE:fr:
Do everything right

Parts to be used

B16A1
Fuel cell (12 gallon summit)
AEM fuel rail
New pump/pressure reg.
Rota Slips with BFG g-force kdw2 (only distinguishable aftermarket part from exterior)
Rear disc swap
Teggy front discs
Manual Brake proportioning valve located next to E-brake
Coilovers from a mini sprint!!!
Turbo Kit with Garett T3/T04E Turbo
Fluidyne radiator
Energy Suspension complete bushing kit

Need a few more

Progress done

Front Tube Chassis. This was interesting, very fun and a learning experience. Did a lot of work but luckily had some people dedicated to help. Cut out strut towers and everything. Welded original control arms in place so I could make new mounts for them.

I wanted to be different on the shocks. I didn't drop springs so I fabbed up mounts for coilovers from a mini sprint which I hope handles ok. It should but only time will tell. At least I can adjust ride height to suit my needs.

Made new front crossmember to keep from having to deal with bushings. Modified front lateral arms of watever to make front heim joints instead of having bushings. Minimize wheelhop.

Made motor mounts on car to accomodate stock JDM B16 mounts to save money. Ended up having to make them solid. Passenger side sagged because its bushing was bad.

Made new rear bumper support. Basically only spot that was rusted.

I was going to go stand alone fuel management but scrapped that idea. Plenty of plug and play honda fuel management out there. Spent a lot of time on harness for standalone though.

I wasn't allowed to paint engine compartment so all my raw metal is rusted in places. I need to pull engine and sandblast and paint it.

I Made a 4 point cage for it but need to weld it in.

Rear part of interior is removed.

I was going to install a flowmaster where gas tank was to hide it then just run a 3" pipe out back.

Still needs done
Secure fuel cell
Wire up pump
Secure battery in rear
install front interior
Fix SI engine harness to make it work with HF chassis harness
Get Integra master/booster and install
Pull engine, sandblast/paint
Install turbo kit. I have mount for IC made and bumper modified
Exhaust
Do something with rear shocks and struts, still stock
Install hood pins/ sorry has to be done. Chopped out upper rad. support.
I am sure there is more but I think I am on the home stretch.

I haven't touched it in a while but I am hoping to get back on it and get it done. I got so overwhelmed I had to walk away. I am making this thread to hope that support from you guys will help me finish it up.

I lost my latest pictures but here is link to the beginning picture and I plan on taking some new ones.

By the way with B16 and missing a few interior parts it weighed under 1800 lbs before I left school.

Ya I already had them on Photobucket and didn't want to transfer all of em. From now on I will just post em on the thread so its easier. I got a couple pics earlier tonight. I got pictures of how car looks on ground and current condition. I got a shot of coilovers I used. If I get my Homework done anytime soon I will get em up here

Ok here are some pictures as it sits, like I said all my fab work got rusted because I wasn't "allowed" to paint. DUMB!!!

Coilover from Mini Sprint, ya that took some fab work to make it not hit axle haha. Damn stock fork setup is weird.

Here is my Fuel Pressure Reg.

Manual Prop. Valve from Wilwood so I can adjust on the fly and fine tune rear brakes.

Not that we haven't seen a Rex with no dash and carpet before but here is another. Just showing how it sits.

Only real rust on body. What can you expect, gives it a sleeper look haha.

Yes that is a push broom holding up the hatch lol. I had it off, struts were shot so I threw em away and haven't gotten new ones yet

Sorry if pic quality is kinda crappy all I had was my phone, I forgot camera. Only had time to take pictures today, I had to swap out a gas tank on a 89 325i. I think they built car around tank. I will keep you guys posted. Let me know what you think or any suggestions.

Haha ya. She's dirty but she should be quick if I ever get her back together again

yea i just got done building a d16a6/z6 vtec minime and got a new transmission just to find out the hard way civic axles wont work in a zc tranny... so now i gotta pull it out take the tranny apart and change out the differental. gonna probably start today. wish me luck.

That looks painful haha. Hope it all works out for you. Sucks when crap like that happens. Especially something that requires lots of work that u just did like having tranny out or whatever.

Nice work man... Keep it up!
Thanks I will try. Got a lot of work still to do but as long as I can afford kerosene for the salamander I hope to have it ready to take to the track this spring.

looks good but i bet theres alot more rust under the side skirts, id pull them off and take a look

oh and let me ask, what made you go with tube frame up front? any good advantages or something you want from it? never seen it on a rex before

Ya there may be some I think that skirt has been pushed in and caused some damage behind it. All other panels look fine and there is no rust under it anywhere. Its really clean for an indiana car. I plan on fixing that door skin or getting another door sometime.

oh and let me ask, what made you go with tube frame up front? any good advantages or something you want from it? never seen it on a rex before

1.)I wanted to learn how while I had all tools and someone to teach me.
2) Its going to be a road race car, not that I won't have it at the drag strip more but my main goal is handling. I plan on tieing those upper tubes into a full cage eventually. When you bail into a corner you don't want any of your suspension moving. Those stock strut towers are like paper thin, I know they have to flex some. I also have a strut bar I made that goes straight from one side to other.
3.) By making my own control arm mounts I can make them slotted to adjust camber without paying extra for control arms adjustable.
4.) "never seen it on a rex before" nough said. I hate being like everyone else.
5.) I thought I was going to save weight but I doubt I saved much. A whole strut tower may weigh 3 pounds

Sorry for leaving everyone hanging, luckily tonight i had a little time to try to figure out the wiring, luckily there are some people in this forum that know more than I do about this car and care enough to share their knowledge with people like me. I actually got the car to spark and have injector pulse. I got it to fire on brake cleaner so now I got anbunch of loose ends to tie up like fuel pump wiring and other stuff then I hope to get it on the road and to the nearest track. I may have enough money for hondata and if I do then I will throw my turbo kit on it and then have some real fun.

I figured I would give an update and post this as a celebration!!!! Hopefully I will have more updates very soon, it's much easier to be motivated when you know the car will actually run. Thanks everyone for your support
