could i do this and keep the Vtec? or would i be better off just swapping the whole b16a5 motor into the car.

what would the stengths/weaknesses be on a b20b block and b16a5 combo?
 
i have never heard of it either there's nothing about it but on forums with people saying the same thing we are B... weird

Yes, you certainly can do this and keep the VTEC. This is a fairly common swap. Search for "CRVTEC" or "B20 VTEC" for more information...
 
Search it in goolge, or search LSVTEC, it is the same basic concept as what your trying to do, and both have been done many of times.
