I've been wondering for the past few days, is there anyone that knows of a company that makes an MPG gauge. I've seen older cars have it, old 88' caddys, new 09' fits, and everything in between. but those are all built in from factory, and I've been wondering if they make after market ones. so if anyone knows of something like this for pretty cheap (under $100) and that works with obd0 would be great!

Most new ones are electronic and simply take fuel volume Vs mileage calculations.
Older ones were mostly vacuum based and were basically real-time what you are getting at THIS throttle input.

Without a computer that can monitor the fuel tank volume and hooks into your VSS, you aren't going to get anywhere for an average/rolling MPG display. OBD2, you can usually just hook right in.
 
You're asking for aftermarket OBD0 support? ............

Why not just use the trip odometer and calculate average mileage on each fill up? Easy, and free.
 
Yes, they do. I've seen it on eco-boards, I'll see if I can dig one up.
 
There's one that uses a PIC that taps a fuel injector, and the VSS. Good luck getting it to work though.

There's another one that uses an arduino and taps a fuel injector and the VSS as well. This is the MGPuino, and it's pretty damned good.

You could always use a calibrated vac-gauge like BMW...


There's also a PIC based design that polls the fuel tank level, vss, fuel injectors, rpm, and the alternator and can figure all kinds of cool shit, range, avg fuel usage, current usage, mpg current, etc. but I can't remember the name right now.

see I was thinking of the vac. gauge one but the thing is I can't really find an where it's just the gauge. Of course I could just do the math myself but I kind of like knowing what I'm getting for mileage at that moment
 
Hook a gauge to your throttle position sensor and try and keep it as low as possible. Also, rig an annoying buzzer or red light to your brakes so that you use them less.
 
lol funny this is, I hardly use my breaks. I think what I may do is just use a vacuum gauge and just keep it as high as possible and just do the math, oh well, but I'll still keep my eyes open

All my 88's and a couple 91's I've driven didn't. :shrug2: I also know that many people with 88-91's have to swap fuel level sending units from a Integra to get the low-fuel light also(gauge swaps).
