I thought I'd post this in the lounge, since I couldn't figure out where else would suit it.

I think it's time for me to step out of heavily modding cars for a while. I am a full time college student and I'm thinking it's time for a change. So I'm considering selling my cars (accord and civic) and getting something new. I DO NOT want a car payment. I want to focus all of my effort both mental and financial on school.

I'm unsure of what to look into though, I can't seem to find anything that really fits my requirements.

- AWD or FWD
- Must get decent gas mileage, comparable to my Accord which gets 18-20 city and 25ish highway
- Comfort is a MUST (not set on leather or anything, but I'd like some space
- Can be new or used, I don't care as long as it isn't beat to hell
- Four doors is a must
- Id like to stay away from anything that's going to be super expensive to maintain and insure

So, any ideas Hondaswap? Keep in mind that this will basically cost what I will get out of my Civic, and maybe a little more on top of that after Summer.

Haha, I didn't even realize what I was looking at.

I've considered an Audi. But the only thing that I'm unsure about is the maintenance on them. Are they fairly easy to work on?

Uhhhh... lol, I'm not sure about that. I never actually worked on the one my buddy had, but it ran great, was quick as hell, and had a hell of a take off because of the AWD, and braking power out the ass (it was a 90(not the year, the model)). It was comfortable ass hell, and pretty roomy. Leather seats, wood trim, was just a nice car all around, I'd really like to get my hands on one.

volvo s80 t6, they are super nice but may be a little out of your price range, def. worth looking into, my brother is a volvo certified mechanic and he has a 99 s80 that is really nice

How much are you expecting to get out of your Civic? That's gonna have a bearing on how much car you can afford without having to make a payment.

I think any decent Audi or Volvo would be out of the question. Maybe an older Maxima. I personally always liked the SVT Contour, but they're all riced out and beat to hell in this area.

Going to have to go with Maxima. I love the things. Quick, comfortable, and reliable. Shoot for a 2002 or 2003 with the lsd 6 speed, and 260hp. I have the last year of the 4th gen (99'), which I feel is the best built of all the years.

How much are you looking to spend? E36 M3's have been really coming down in price lately. They are awesome cars. For the price there is no better "drivers car". A friend of mine has one and I've never seen any car take such a beating and hold up. Yes I know you said fwd or awd only, however, with a good set of snow tires and the factory lsd, I know first hand that they are beasts in the snow.

evo..awd..has power,has room,and shouldnt be too much..or a subaru

Nissan Maxima
Thinking about it. I think I could handle doing the basics on one of them too (brakes, oil changes, etc)

I had a Volvo wagon with 230k on it. It put up with my abuse so I know that they are reliable, but for my price range I'm not sure what I could get into.

Not too sure what I'd get out of my Civic. I'm gonna make a rough estimate and say 6500-7 at the very most.

That sounds really appealing. What're they going for?

Hmm...

6500-7k is probably what I'll be looking to spend. Unless I can get more out of my Civic.
Are E36's getting that cheap? lol
I'm worried more about the insurance on the M3..

Meh, the initial cost is out of my price range (10k+) and the insurance is outrageous on both for a 19yr old
Have fun paying insurance on any "boy racer" car.
Exactly. I'm looking to get out of that league. I'm willing to sacrifice speed and performance for a little reliability and comfort.

I think I left out a budget.. 6500-7k which is what I think ill get out of my Civic

insurance on my m3 was basically the same as my truck (both full coverage). but, i'm also old :(

you can get a nice bmw for 6500 bucks. late 90's 3 series
audis in your price range are probably best avoided (probably need t-belts, etc that are pricey)
maxima is a good choice
altima too.
vr6 passat or something?

A BMW would be awesome. I think thats pretty close to top of my list, that and a Maxima.

Passat is a possibility. Though I don't know if I'd be able to maintain one or not...

Hmmm, how about you sell one car, make the other car into a good reliable daily driver and work on school, when you're done with school go buy something nice.

Audi all the way....1.8T. AWD,, great gas milage, nice interior, and if you decide later you want to mod, its easy, get an APR Stage 1+ for some added power or turbo swap for even more power...

Sell the accord, keep the civic, and be a college kid with money in the bank. Nothing wrong with that!! Buy a nice car after school is over.
