now its a 91
Can't wait, I have a friend coming over to take photo's of what I am doing so I can make a DIY on it. I am going to cut the pillar seat belt mounting nuts out of a 89 Si hatch and I am going to weld them in to a 91 Dx hatch. I don't know about the rest of you but I HATE the door mounted belts. they are LAME. I may be a little bit drunk but I am so exited about tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!:D

if you (or worse, your passenger) gets seriously hurt or dies in a wreck, you may have serious lawsuits and insurnace issues. I'd highly recommend NOT doing this if you put a plate on your car.

I don't see the problem with it. The mount holes are there, they just need to have nuts in place. I am going to slip the nut through the hole in the pillar (right where they are on the pillar mounted cars) The pillars are exactly the same except for there not being a nut in place. I just don't see what the problem is. I am a professional mechanic and a good welder. So what exactly do you see as being the bad part of this conversion? this is just a street car, I don't race around on the streets, or the track. I don't want a cage for this reason, and I want my back seat. It is in no way a performance enhancer, just to make it look better. I will be posting throughout the day as my progress goes. Now to eat some breakfast and get to work!!!

Just got the mounts cut out of the 89. going to start tearing apart the 91 here in minuet. would post pics but i forgot the camera outside... will get to it next time..

It's because of legality issues. It didn't come from the factory like that. Even if it had holes from it, I doubt you're certified to make that modification. It's similar to how rolling back an odometer is illegal, even if you're just setting it to the car's original miles.

Actually it is a Honda Motors of Canada car. All California civics are due to emission compliance. I just got one side in. had both my buddy and I jumping on it, about 400+ lbs plus the jumping force. and nothing flexed. The factory mounts were spot welded. Fillet welds will hold it to the car better than what the factory did. I don't even want to share pictures with you haters. but I will show you what gave me the idea. My camera died or I would post some pictures=( I am going to do the other side tomorrow. Plus its all going to be covered, so you won't see any of the welds or anything. The seatbelts are out of a 89 si hatch. It took forever to get the mounts out of the parts car and ready to go in the new car so I was only able to get one side in today, but the rest is almost ready to weld in.

I got the other side almost in today, I need to weld in one more nut for the buckle on the driver side. << yet another reason that I am doing this the buckle was part of the seat and I want to swap the seats out. I am going to start my write up tonight and will probably get to putting in this thread sometime this weekend.

Rain!! nooo now I have to clean the garage to make room for the car. Welding in the rain just doesn't sound appealing to me. Not bad though I have been wanting to that anyway so I can start body work too.

I woke up to the mountains covered in snow, it started to sleet but no snow at the house. we are at about 3500 ft. last December we got a foot in downtown and the 14 fwy was shut down for a long time. stupid Californians not knowing how to drive in the snow. this was last year on the mountain:
