i know jeffie has a place out there. and its close to where i work. and the 1-1.5hr commute sucks. so im looking for a place.

ideally i want a 2BR townhouse w/ garage. ive been looking a bit online and found some places, but the pictures are generic and dont really specify if they have a garage. i really, REALLY want a garage since ill have my CRX, whatever other car i get (or teg if i dont get a new car for a while) and my gf's car if she decides to move in with me after school. i really just want the garage for the rex so i can take it off the road and stop paying ins/tags for it.

does anyone besides jeffie live in this area? can you recommend any good places that would fit the bill?

rent will probably be about 1200-1400 for this area.

I live near Columbia, about 20-25 from rockville.

I'll tell you straight up, for this area 1200-1400 isn't going to cut it unless you're in a shit neighborhood, I had an apartment at
Dolben Communities - Fieldstone Farm

You can get a garage, much better garages then what townhouses have that's for sure.... however you're still looking at around 1400-1500

There's a townhouse being rented out W/garage on my street, they're paying $1700.00 for the TH and IMO that's a killer deal to get in this neighborhood + have a garage and all HOA/taxes taken care of.

If you drop the garage idea I think 1500 is do able, and it opens up a lot more options for apartments.

Be cool if you move to the area. Welcome to Piney Orchard I really like Columbia, looking into opening a business there but I'm not a fan of living there since there's not a lot of good driving/riding roads plus its a bit farther from Annapolis where PineyOrchard is in the middle of DC/Annapolis and Baltimore.

There's townhouses in Seven Oaks that are very nice but I bet your chit will end up missing within a few weeks.

If you have any questions or want to check out the area send me a txt or AIM, if you don't have my # already PM me and I'll send it to you.

Oh and to answer your other question. no, no one else lives around here, I think there's 4 MD user, pickles, me, you and joe is it? they all hang out up north, where I'm down here. (below the B line)

yea PM me your number. i really just threw 1200 out there cause i saw some places for that range, but like i said it didnt say anything about a garage. that place you were at before looks nice. might be a little bit out of my range though being 1700-1800 with a garage. how was the garage? how big is it? is it attached to your building?

i really want the garage to keep the rex in like i said. get it out of sight. i cant drive it in the winter and leaving it sit under a cover outside really sucks

really...i didnt expect renting to be that cheap in that area considering how much houses cost.

Its one of the main reasons i havent moved to the north east. I kinda hate you two now....cause now im thinkin again.

It cost more to live here but you'll make way more money so it easily offsets it.

The apartments I linked had 3 normal garages 1 good garage and 1 great garage for every building. 5 garages total for each building and something like 10 buildings.

As far as garages went they KILLED my town home garage, I did my turbo install in my apartment garage with more then enough room to spare I also had my bike in there, tool box, table, rack, all my jacks and jack stands and still had room to move. As for my townhome its like any other townhome garage, just large enough to fit a compact car in with zero moving room. i put my TL in the garage, it fit, but there was no way I could have got out.

The town house that was rented on my street would have been great, garage, 4 bathrooms 3 bedrooms a deck and a good sized (for a townhome) fenced in backyard.

You could have easily rented out the basement, it had a full bathroom with rear entry.

I looked for houses for a long time all around Anne Arundel, Calvert, Howard, and some of PG county. Hands down this area is the place to be. Other people think the same thing so it does push prices up a bit more VS other areas around here but I wouldnt want to be anywhere else.

Homes.com - Real Estate and Homes For Sale.

For anyone looking to get into this area, yes its pricey but again, pay tends to be higher. Also the metro DC/MD/VA area = many gov jobs and that = a stable market, this area has seen some pull back over the last two years but over all nothing VS other areas of the country so when chit happens it tends to be a lot less of a problem here.

renting can run from 800 for a crappy 1 bedroom in a shit area to 1400-1900 for a nice area 1 bedroom, really nice can run 2000-3000. Smaller town homes are in the 1400-2000 range, normal houses can run 2000-3500

So many things factor into it. My apartment was 13xx then 150 for garage, 20 for cat 20 for top floor (20 foot ceiling) and I tink something else in there so it was around 1500 at the end of the day, 750sqft

i dont mean to burst your bubble, but you really should get out of your probation period before you ever start considering buying a big expensive car and/or a house..

on a side note, the quote in your sig is now close to 6 years old, lmao

its staying forever!!

and what do you mean probation?

He means, wait 90 days to make sure you don't get canned after training in the job. would suck to move only to not have a job in february.

i really dont have to worry about it. there are some people that are WAY over in training. a couple people on the Terra mission have been there for like 5-6 months and not certified yet. ive learned that its actually pretty hard to get fired from this job lol. this guy didnt show up for 2 days in a row, and didnt call in or anything. hes still there. but i know ill get certified in the time frame i need to.

but just like the car thread, im really just trying to find out whats out there, im not going to go sign a lease today or anything.

Rockville is ridiculously expensive, and to be honest... I would take that idea out of your mind. I think you should really look into the AA county/Columbia area. As you know, I just signed a lease in White Marsh, and my place is 1300 monthly, with no garage...

I know a few people in the area, and I will check around at their prices.

Id hate living in rockville, pretty much the city life. no backroads, police everywhere, speed cameras, some of the worst roads in MD pothole wise.and yes, way over priced.

no thank you! great area to visit but to live..... no way.

well i really only put rockville cause i knew jeffie was there, and its in the same general area, and i wanted to flag him and get his input lol.

Avalon Columbia - Columbia, MD Apartment Floorplans

this looks pretty good. i mainly wanted a townhouse with attached garage, but that prob wont happen, seems like most places dont have that, or if they do its like uber expensive. but if im going to get a place with detached garage i might as well save some money and just get an apartment instead. although it would be nice to have something multi-level and not worry about noise from above or below.

you can do that here too, but man most of the neighborhoods in dallas that you can get a 2-3 bedroom w/ garage for 1k you do NOT want to live in.

I might be moving soon and its a PITA to find something as nice as where i'm living now in a better neighborhood.

I digress though. I still cant belive prices in MD are that low.

Yeah I hated being worried about the person below me. Before you buy check out both areas Columbia has tons of food and lots of stuff local to you but then you're kind of in the middle of a little town/city where you cant screw around. I'm sure if I lived there I'd have a ticket or two everytime I took my bike/z out

The garages at my old place were attached to the building, you would walk down the stairs then at the bottom floor open a door that leads to the 5 garages that all have their own doors.

Annapolis has apartments kind of in a crappy area but its fenced in and they have attached garages that go straight into your apartment.

holy crap its expensive over there.. lol.. you could rent a house w/ garage for $1000 here..
Again, you make more money here. If you can get a job that has a base pay no matter where you live, then cheaper areas is no doubt the place to go!
